If you're uncircumcised and you want to convert, do you have to have it done by a rabbi in front of your family?

I looked into this actually awhile ago...no, it would be done in private with a "sponsor" and the rabbi. You bathe first and then it would be done. Although, this isn't a mandatory thing. From what I gathered it was a temple to temple differentiation as to whether it happened of not. If I remember correctly there is a "baptism" of sorts that is done. I was going to make a short film about this, and still might. Very intriguing process.
