I'm not even going to investigate this before proclaiming it

THE STUPIDEST THING I'VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME.

What, are you supposed to stand in your goddamn driveway and plug into your car stereo? Really?

(Although I enjoy seeing Nigel Tufnel in the commercials)

Nigel Tufnel?

I've only seen Slash. Who looks TERRIBLE. Jesus he looks rough.

And yeah, I cannot imagine anyone actually using this thing.

Gotta hand it to VW. Instead of making cars that work they're giving drivers something to do when the car's broken down. Tow trucks can take 30-40 minutes sometimes & what better way to kill that time than Rockin' out?!?!

...esta bueno.

I have one, as a vehicle for good pickups. Fun knock-around guitar.

http://www.vdubrocks.com/?sem=53744177

It's a guitar with a built-in preamp. And I guess the new VW's have inputs . . . and well, it's just too stupid for words.

VW has a history of hiring new ad agencies to come up with dashing, bold new campaigns (fahrvergnugen, drivers wanted, etc), and then when sales slump because of price / quality issues, they sack them and start with someone else.

I desperately want them to figure that out.

It's also a First Act guitar right? The same brand they sell at Wal Mart for like $90?

Actually First Act does make the el cheapos sold at Wal-Mart, but they have a REAL division that makes quality instruments as well. The guitar they are giving away is probably closer to a grand.

Ok no. Those are garbage. The "reviews" of even the custom ones are one sentence about how the bridge pickup bites more than the neck pickup... duh. It's closer to the bridge. That's not a compliment.

blech.

Thanks, tho Juice - I had no idea this was even going on. I learned something today!

Hadn't played any first hand. Just going by a few things I read on various guitar forums. I did hear that they actually have a couple of "Custom Shop" stores set up where you can walk in and pick out the components right there and have a guitar built to your specs.

It seems like they'd call their high-end line something other than "First Act" though. That name implies beginner.
