Did anyone see that video Jarvis had on his myspace page? The song sounded pretty good.

you just made my fucking week.

which admittedly, after 2 emergency room trips, excruciating pain, a major fuckup at the job, and my girlfriend leaving for the rest of the week, is pretty easy.

But still, many thanks.

So, full album posted in a thread, without the code tag. I see we no longer have a policy.

apologies. an oversight on my part.

instead of deleting the file, how about just fixing the mistake Haq? that was kind of a dick move, especially since there are folks that would still like to hear the album. that's just straight up childish.

i'll re-up for you guys in a bit.

Well, I didn't delete the file, since it's not hosted here. If you lost the original link, that's on you. But if you'll remember, the rule is not to post full albums publicly, and if you PM them to one another, use the code tag.

yeah, you deleted the link, which is lame.

i don't have the time to pm or email a bunch of folks links, so it's much easier to do it on the board. if the link is code tagged, what's the problem?

thanks board christ.

The problem is that you're advertising, in a place fully visible to Google and the rest of the world, that entire albums are being traded on Obner. So if I work for Jarvis Cocker's record label and I'm concerned with stopping pre-release piracy and want to see whether anyone is fucking stupid enough to do it publicly, I can just do a quick search and find this thread. I can download the album as evidence and take screenshots. Then I can subpoena Sendspace for a record of how many times the file has been downloaded. They will turn over the record, and let's guess low and say it's been downloaded 10 times from that link. There are 13 seperate copyrighted works included in the download, so that's 130 individual downloads of my copyrighted content. I will then browse this board and find ample evidence that the users "Dalen" and "HaqDiesel" are well aware (or at least constructively aware) that trading albums this way is illegal. This means that what Dalen is doing is "willful infringement," and the maximum statutory damages for each incidence of infringement is $150,000. I now have a lawsuit for $19,500,000, and all I need are some defendants. Ordinarily I would subpoena the bulletin board for IP addresses. They might put up a fight, but when they saw how much it would cost them, they would roll over easily enough. In this case, luckily, I can figure out who these people really are from their conversations on the bulletin board. Dale Nibbe, from bumfuck Florida, and Aaron Williamson, currently residing in New York City. Dale's an open-and-shut case--he really has no defense, so we will sue him for whatever fraction of $19,500,000 we think he has in his account. Aaron's a little tougher, but since he makes an attempt to moderate the board and has an extensive knowledge of copyright law, he can't claim lack of knowledge, so we can almost certainly get him for contributory/secondary liability (see Grokster) for all he's worth too.

But other than that, I can't see a problem.

uh yeah, great.

so wtf is the code button for? if that is useless, why do you still have it up here?

From the YSI thread:

"simple. if you want to share a YSI or other link, just hit the [code] button. it forces the linkee to copy/paste the the link from his/her's own browser instead of it being linked directly to Obner"

"this is Haq approved BTW"

and damn, i see the 100,000 or so lawsuits pending for Hipinion.com, a site that trades a TON of music (advances/new releases) every single day.

you'll noticed that thread says nothing about whether you should or shouldn't post links to entire albums in public threads. YOU SHOULDN'T. LIKE I SAID IN THE OTHER THREAD.

I don't care if Hipinion's been sued or not. I don't want to be sued. Take it or leave it, asshole.
