There's a guy I work with who has pretty good taste in music, IMO.
He's never heard the s/t Social Distortion, so I just loaned it to him now.

It's one of those albums that i KNOW is going to instantly become one of his all-time favorites. It's fun loaning out albums like that. I'm psyched to hear his reaction to it.

This is why I love sharing music, for times like these.

. . . and then them coming back and going "eh, it's alright, I guess." When I started working at the company I work at now, I loaned an Autechre album to a guy I work with once because he claimed he liked "really interesting, cutting edge electronic stuff" and he brought it back saying exactly the above and then added that "they use a lot of dated sounds." Um, okay. I later found out that when he meant "cutting edge electronic stuff," he meant Linkin Park. Yes, Linkin Park.

I used to be the guy who controlled the radio or always put on cd's. I loved it when someone asked me who it was that I put on because they loved it. I also accepted it when people hated something or was not in the mood to listen to whatever I put on. I always welcomed people to put stuff on for a change of pace and to give me a chance to hear some new stuff. Most people didn't have much to offer so I was never threatened with losing control. It really is a good feeling to introduce them to something they really like.

I refuse to give new music to one of my friends because he's stuck in 1994 and makes fun of anything that's "different".

I'm always excited about introducing people to Centro-Matic's Distance and Clime, but nobody seems to like it...at least nowhere near as much as I do.

I prefer All The Falsest Hearts Can Try. I don't think I've listened to D&C that much though, I'll have to remedy that.

I just might have to rethink my position on mailman Christmas tipping, after all.

I still try to introduce a ton of people but for every positive responses, I get two where I'm completely surprised they didn't like it.

I thought my sister would have gone for the Regina Spektor and Art Brut discs I lent her but she wasn't that into them at all.

Shit, i've given up on turning anyone here on to anything, so i just wait for you to turn me on to stuff.

The only people who are receptive to me are deena and one of my little brothers.

Colin on the other hand is receptive to everything, from actually good stuff to some questionable shit to some undeniably bad horseshit. He's just a much less cranky person than I, so we'll chalk it up to that.

I stopped recommending stuff to people around 1995...unless they specifically ask.

I was going to say you're proving my point, until I remembered that when you combine his solo work with Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel and his dozen or so other side projects, he's released about 381 albums to date.

BTW, my "fuck social D" thread was not a response to this. Just read it now. Sorry to rain on the parade.

21 year old kid.
I introduced him to:
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (last week)
Jimi Hendrix (today)

He claims he has never heard either one before.
And, judging by his reaction, it appears to be true.

He is also a drummer, and was very impressed by Mitch Mitchell.
How could you not be?

This was a cool one.
