So this is a dilemma. New York Dolls or Lee Scratch Perry or neither. I'm seeing shows the night before and the night after...all three are week night shows. I always feel like I should make the effort to see legends when I have a chance, but I'm no spring chicken anymore and 3 late nights in a row in the middle of the week is a little much. I'd blow it off but I feel bad blowing BOTH Lee Perry and the Dolls off...so what do I do?

If This were the dolls of 1973, it would obviously be an easy choice.

You'll find more things to like about Perry 2006 than you will Dolls 2006, imo.

I suppose its possible but she has two new albums this year so I'm sure it'll focus on her new stuff and then she has a large back catalog as well.

Titas has a Tribalistas connection as well btw...Arnaldo Antunes was the founder of that band although he left them many years ago. I heard rumors that a second Tribalistas album was in the works two years ago and I'm still hoping that its true.

Lee Perry! You never know when he's going to die so see him while you can. He's a legend.

I'm voting Perry unless you can make it to both. Start times? Distance between venues?

Me too. I'm a buyer the day it's released.

I really enjoyed seeing the Dolls last year, but I fully admit it was a case of personal nostalgia. If I was a chick or an indie type, I'd probably have wept. That said, I'm pretty sure you'll get another chance to see this version of the Dolls again - Johansen and Sylvain are justifiably gonna milk it this time. Perry, on the other hand, might not be around all that much longer.

So you should go see Perry. But I vote the Dolls.

Also, something about a buncha old guys in drag may be kinda funny, but it detracts a bit from the Dolls' danger factor. Plus, no Johnny Thunders.

See Lee.
