Whatever you'd call the Tom Waits/Captain Beefheart stuff. It sounds like death stuffed with shit.

Add me to the reggae bandwagon. I don't know what it is, but put anything to a reggae beat and it's zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Blues. Totally formulaic.

I somehow saw him live once. It was incredibly impressive watching the musicians perform that stuff. Watching. Listening, not so much.

Rap/Hip Hop-anything that falls into that category.

Twee/Emo-makes my ears hurt

Punk-I've just never gotten into most Punk. I've tried. Just can't.

And I haven't been able to get into Power Pop since seeing the band Shoes live. They killed most of my interest in it. That and my eardrums.

Jazz - I know it's good, but I can't find much my ears actually enjoy.
Classical - See "Jazz."
Electronica - I'm not even sure this is good.

The blues - I've never been able to find much that didn't just bore the shit out of me.

Industrial & gothic stuff - by & large, I don't like stuff that sounds like it was made by a bunch of machines ( I consider guitars instruments, not machines ) . And a lot of these 2 genres take themselves waaaaaaay too seriously for me. And their fans dress like idiots.

Most genres, I can find at least a few things I like.

I think a lot of people are misinterpreting the thread topic as genres I don't like.

I don't like: Heavy Metal, Hardcore, Industrial, Noise, Polka, and Prog

I wouldn't say I have a tough time getting into these genres though because I know that they are not for me and don't make any effort to get into them.

I appreciate Avante Garde Jazz, Ambient and Classical, but have a hard time getting into them. Could I enjoy them if I put more effort into exploring them and understanding their merits, possibly but for now I have other styles that scratch the same itch with less effort on my part.

I like Rap on its own artistic merits I suppose but if music is the soundtrack to your life, I have a hard time finding a part of my life that rap is a good soundtrack for.

I think there's an argument for how similar these three genres are to each other.

I believe that I can easily get into the most appealing music of ANY genre - and detest certain bands of my favourite sounds - but there's some with which this happens less frequently than others. They are: Indie Rock (for lack of a better generalization), Rap, guilty pleasure Metal, Drill n' Bass type shit.

Reggaeton and commercial hip-pop bother me immensely. But, other than that... I spose I don't get too behind much speed metal (as one mentioned..not much room on my soundtrack for it)

I do tend to avoid all mainstream country and what gets played on "Alternative Rock" stations with as much gusto as can be mustered under the relentless rage of ClearChannel This of course only when I am in the US'o'A.
(I just got back from Texas this afternoon and of all things to forget: rental car CDs slipped my mind)
