I do it so I don't have to bust my ass when you nerds post threads asking me to list my favorite record from the winter of 1992.

I just make stuff up that sounds feasibly like something I would have thought back then. It's so much easier to b.s. than to be consistent and accurate. About most things, actually.

Yeah, I've got one - but it's just a typed up list. No spreadsheet or anything.

I keep the info in an email to myself in 2 different email accounts, & cut & pasted on my message board. I used to have it in just 1 place, & that got wiped out. Never again.

And one good reason for doing it is if you trade with people...you can just zip 'em a copy of yer collection to browse.

I had one in Excel but then I didn't have access to that program for like 7-8 years so it hasn't been updated in all that time. I think I still have the file for it and figure I can just use Open Office for it now, though I've been more obsessed with listing all my cd's on Lala.

Because laying all my CDs on the floor and rolling around on them naked would just break a lot of jewel cases. Really, it's the anal-retentive datahead's equivalent of fucking a bag of money.

here's a question - do you enter music DVDs in the same spreadsheet as CDs? specifically, would you put the DVD of SFA's rings around the world in your CD database? what about something like doves' where we're calling from? (by the way, the music DVDs at tower are 40% off and it's slim pickings at this point.)

another good use of dbs that give track listings is that you can easily find what albums in your collection have a song with "summer" "fuck" "moon" in the title. helps when you are making your Summer Fuck Moon mix cd.

right now i use www.recordnerd.com just as a artist/title/label/description list, maybe someday i'll buy some database software, unless someone knows how i can get some from free......

right on.

is it dorky that this thread makes me want to create a similar database? i really just wish id3 tags had record label and release dates included, and that there was an easy way to import that info into a program like excel.... then this would not be difficult.

Hey

I noticed you did that on LALA as well.. Any particular reason? You up for potentially trading any cd in your collection? So, if ya log on there, and one of your cd's that you love is requested, do you just ignore the request?

just curious as to why you listed everything. i only put up the stuff i wanna get rid of.
