You probably know it from Donnie Darko.
Original was on Tears For Fears first album.

Yes, one of those rare instances where the cover far surpasses the original.

BZZZZZZT!

Not true. Not true at all. Everyone needs to go out and do themselves a favor by buying this Tears For Fears album if they don't have it.

It's by far their best.

Great song indeed. Impressive lyrics:

Mad World- Gary Jules

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tommorow, no tommorow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Mad World

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Mad World
Mad World
Mad World

WHAT?. Don't write for anyone but myself. If you mean the comparison b/w the original and the cover song.. I like the cover version. Period!!!!

Nah, I think cos you put Gary Jules name by the lyrics which infers he wrote the song - which was actually Roland Orzabal...

Well just meant Gary Jules' version. Wait till you see who was actually credited in some of the various soundtracks and albums.

Nah, from what I saw then it was some guy named Michael Andrews.

He's the other guy who covered it with Gary Jules.

Andrews is a producer/multi-instrumentalist/soundtrack guy. It was first released as an Andrews track "featuring Gary Jules" but then it was on Jules' album Trading Snakeoil For Wolftickets.

Andrews and Jules were both in The Origin. Andrews was also in Greyboy Allstars and Elgin Park.

Why? What qualifies it, in your opinion, as a bad thread. It was a question about music that was answered and then discussed.

Trading Snakeoil For Wolftickets is pretty good, though. Stark, dark, dour, folk. He's lumped with David Gray types, but Gray worships at the altar of Van Morrison-lite whereas Jules has more Tim Buckley/Bob Dylan/Simon & Garfunkel connections. You certainly can't call the record danceable or bouncy, anyway.

plus I've had The Hurting since it first came out and stilll like it a lot today

It was on Oct. 25th, 2004 the day the Serial Murderers started posting here.
