The Rolling Stones have been around for OVER 50 YEARS. Completely insane. Copyright protection on their old tunes will run out soon.

Wednesday's address looks set to reject music industry calls for an extension of copyright on sound recordings to 95 years from 50

booyah.

also...

Quote:
"I don't think anyone involved in music's creation can understand how, after a certain amount of time, it stops being yours and starts being everyone else's," he told Reuters.

"We need to do the groundwork so there is an element of protection for artists and record companies who take a risk with an artist," he added. "That's if we value the entertainment industry and value music in our society."

this just makes my blood boil. how is 50 years not "an element of protection"? if you can't make back your "risky" investment within 50 years, you're sure as hell not going to do it in 45 more. i can't think of someone who has been rewarded more disproportionately to his contribution than the frigging James Bond theme guy.

Yeah that whole "may make it harder to invest in new artists" tripe was fucking hilarious. So, in other words, "if I can only earn money on it for 50 fucking years instead of 95, then... I'm not sure I can cough up the initial hundred grand to record, produce, and promote the shit out of an album. Cuz, you know, when that 50th year rolls around and I haven't quite recouped my money yet..."

My bad, it's the guy who wrote the scores, not the theme.
