It's November, which means that 10 months have passed in 2004. Only two to go, and you know what that means.

Christmas presents!!

Also, my year-end poll.

I'm wondering, though, if there's some way to use this site to make the vote counting process easier. Can we set up some form for people to fill out, where we can make sure they only vote once and that they're all formatted the same? Aaron?

Shmoo,

I look forward to your year-end poll every Decemeber. It gives me a reason to go back over albums I've shelved to reevalute. I hope it becomes a little easier for you. It is much appreciated.

Well, I guess I'll have at least one voter...

I'm sure we can figure something out. What kind of interface are you thinking of? What will we do about write-ins?

We could do a nomination-type poll first, to get the list of all releases...

Then people could just populate a list from the available selections?

That's true, as long as the poll is capable of listing a hundred or more titles.

That's a thought, though I'd still want a write-in section. We had hundreds of albums the past two years. But at least this way I wouldn't up with:

Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
The Shins - Chutes Too Narrows
Shins - Cutes Too Narrow
Shins - Chutes 2 Narrow
Shins - The Chutes Too Narrow
Shins - Shoots Too Narrow
Shins - Cutes To Narrow
etc.

Yes, the more I think about it, the more amazed I am that you've done the tabulating by hand for the last two years!

The shmoo poll is upon us already?

I'll vote however you want and whatever format.

Much respect for your efforts in the past.

I usually end up attempting to own or at least hear the top 20.

the year-end shmoo-run poll is probably my favorite cmj board-related activity.

Shmoo poll: it's a good thing...

I'm all for making Eric's job easier. The only concern I have with poll/formatting is unique entries. I expect a few of my top 20 won't be on anyone else's list, and I want to make sure they are still acknowledged. Not sure what a solution to this would look like, though... maybe use a retail site (amazon?) to define how artists and albums should be titled, and anything listed differently won't be counted?
