My printer is starting to get banding marks on everything, so I guess I should replace it. I'm looking for something that prints and scans since the old scanner crapped out around a year ago. Mostly, it will be used for me to print out CD covers and my wife to print photos.

The questions I have are...do I really need a new printer, or is there something, like print heads, that I could replace cheaply on my current one?

If I need a new printer, any suggestions on what I should look for. I'm kinda looking at a Canon MP600. Anyone know anything about it?

Any and all suggestions welcome. Won't spend more than a couple hundred bucks and if I can go cheaper and still have solid print quality I'd be happy to.

what kind of printer do you have?

I just poked around online and found a couple things but they seem to be printer specific.

There seem to be two basic types of banding that occur for different reasons and both ought to be fixable...

Quote:
Head Banding is present when the bands seem to run across the entire image. And then another type of banding is commonly seen in those areas of the image where colors are very dark, or heavily saturated. It's especially common in dark red, green, or blue, and black regions.

Its a Canon S530D. The banding is across the entire image and runs vertically down the right side of the pages.

A cheap fix would be ideal, but I'm feeling I may be stuck buying something new since I'm not finding much about fixes for old printers online. People seem to just trash 'em unless they're something high end.

click on the f.a.q. under tech support and type in banded prints and it comes up with like 13 things that might help fix it.

Yeah...tried that...just basic crap like using the clean printheads and align printheads functions and all that...already did all that stuff.

With printers being as cheap as they are these days, wouldn't it be better just to buy a new one?
