What it comes down to for me is I'm already employed in one field of music 45 hours a week, spend several more hours a day engrossed in indie/ambient/alternative/americana/folk and simply don't have the time or energy to find out much about jazz, classical or hip hop, for that matter.

Also I can't always remember artists names and track names when I hear jazz and rarely can remember the names of classical pieces. Makes it hard to build a favorites list unless I start carrying a little notebook with me and scratching down titles.

Haven't been that obsessive since before the kids were born.

So it means I discover acts like Mehldau and and Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath by accident and happenstance.
