Seafoam, heads up!!!
This is going to be an absolutely mesmerizing evening of music and vision. Sigur Ros are without a doubt one of my favorite bands, and this one off performance from them should be pretty monumental. Music from Radiohead as well!
World Premiere by Merce Cunningham!
February 25 @ 7:30 p.m.
Merce in Miami is a citywide tribute to one of the great artists of our era. It celebrates his more than 50 years as dance maker and theatrical visionary as well as his many extraordinary collaborations with major figures in music and the visual arts. As its centerpiece, Carnival Center presents three different programs by a company whose name is synonymous with ground-breaking American contemporary dance, Merce Cunningham Dance Company.
A second program in the Ballet Opera House on February 25 includes Crises (1960) and Split Sides (2003), which features music by the bands Radiohead and Sigur Rós. At this historic tribute to Cunningham, Sigur Rós will come to Miami to perform its portion of the score live.
In addition to Carnival Center performances, Merce in Miami will include art exhibits, concerts, lectures, and workshops throughout South Florida, making it a significant achievement for the City of Miami and a remarkable event in the world of the arts.
Also participating in Merce in Miami are Museum of Contemporary Art (Miami MOCA), New World School of the Arts, Florida Dance Association, interdisciplinary Sound Arts Workshop and Miami-Dade College.
