As for Monty, you obviously don't have a clue.

It still mostly is, no?

I thought the State House and Senate and Gov were all Dems.
I have also heard Ieyoub may be the nom and not whatshercrybaby.

The Republicans were non existant in Louisiana till about the mid 80's. They've risen to actually being a real party in the 90's and probably peaked with do nothing Foster. But most of the elected officals are democrats. Jindal will be tough to beat next election and is easily the best candidate. I'm not sure even the racisim in North Louisiana can stop him.

Reagan pretty much birthed the Repubs ( at least as elected officials) in every Southern State. 1980 saw the first Repub Sen in GA and AL, who both lost in 86.

I think I would probably vote for Jindal. Seems like a fucking smart and inspiring dude.

Reagan was probably part of it. But it really has alot to do with Edwin Edwards who created the open primary system to save him the time of doing two elections. It eventually opened the door to the creation of a viable republican party that probably would have never existed other wise.

True, but a lot of guys who were Democrats then, would be Republicans now. (I know you know this, i'm just pointing it out to the class)

The name Richard Russell comes to mind.
