In an article about the much hyped commercial where he plays a fast food worker dreaming of stardom, I laughed at this stat:

Quote:
His first album sold just 6,500 copies in its first week, and a number of dates on his U.S. tour were canceled due to lack of interest in the former back-up dancer's music.

and then remember that most of the bands we listen to would be thrilled to move 6500 units in one week.

I agree, but the bands we listen to don't often get as much publicity, or a national release. Most stuff we listen to isn't available at Target, Best Buy, or Circuit City.

Average weekly sales per position in UK Top 40 album chart.

1. - 88,425

5. - 39,800

10. - 25,800

20. - 16,750

30. - 11,850

40. - 8,750

Looking at this weeks chart Muse or Ray Lamontage could have expected to sell around 15,000 copies this week, Killers about 20,000, Kasabian 25,000, Lily Allen roughly 38,000.

Amy Winehouse is currently No.1
