I just bought tickets for their Valentine's Day show in Northampton.

HePoet is a fan (it's his gift), I'm a new fan within the last year and a half or so. Yes, late bloomer.

I'm pretty excited.

They're good live, right?

I assumed as much, but I'm a needy bitch and wanted confirmation.

I saw them at Lollapalooza '95 when they were touring behind Washing Machine. Pretty fantastic show, still one of my favourites.

Bring earplugs. I've seen them three times and each time have walked away saying, "Fuck, I wish I'd worn earplugs".

They played outdoors in the Tower Records parking lot, Columbus & Bay in SF 1991-1992. Must've been 1000 to 1500 people = horrible

A few years later Thurston solo @ Neil's Bridge Benefit. After several attempts at tuning his acoustic guitar, he gave up, smashed it and walked off. Underwhelming at best.

That said, I like their records.

Fave band as stated numerous times.

Amazing live band that I've seen too many times to count. Great, great band to see. Best was when Kim tossed the mic out to my best friend and I in the front row to sing the Chuck D portions of Kool Thing.

I saw them last year at the Allentown Fair. And it was in-cred-ible.

Though I was exceptionally miffed that they were OPENING for Ween and The Flaming Lips. Ok, The Flaming Lips I could understand because they are a big, flashy rock show. But Ween? What the heck? They were horrible. I still get riled up when I think about it. (though to be fair Ween did have more fans there than Sonic Youth. But it just seems WRONG.)

They still played a decent lengthed set. And they are the sort of band that can play during the daylight without flashing strobes or dry ice or confetti flying everywhere.

I saw them play an outdoor show from 200+ feet back with earplugs in and I still thought "WOW, THIS IS LOUD."

I'll take him to the show you'll have your way with him afterwards? I dunno, we'll work out the details soon.

Thanks for the input, guys, I'm super excited now.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

I saw Sonic Youth open for Neil Young and Crazy Horse back on his Ragged Glory tour at the now-defunct HemisFair Arena in San Antonio (loudest in the ABA!!!), and they were BY FAR the worst I've ever seen in concert (SY, not NY...Neil kicked ASS).

Just abysmal.

But have fun!

P.S. See you Saturday night...

While I agree that it is indeed wrong (while I lurve Ween), you have to understand something. Ween has a huuuuuge following around Allentown/NJ area. Probably a bigger draw for the area. Anyplace else, and they would've been opening for SY.
