Really.

i worked a couple factory jobs here where it wasn't unusual to ask or be asked "have you ever been locked up?"
if the answer was "yes" they were usually domestic violence addicts or expert drunk drivers

also, there are some anarchists here that set up the majority of the shows that were locked up a while for breaking into/robbing a liquor store

then i have a friend that got locked up for getting a DUI w/ a 9 year old passenger... who also had been drinking (not any sort of molo ... just thought it'd be funny to get his roomates little brother drunk and then go buy cigarettes... absolutely retarded)

then i worked as a youth counselor for some really bad kids that stole cars and sold crack.. and got locked up in the juve... holding up a subway with a knife... and they basically all end up being in and out of jail/criminals for life... but i tried to be cool so that when they get guns they don't come after me

and then i know a guy that went to jail for not doing his income taxes... driving uninsured vehicles... and drunk driving

and another guy that passed out on a public beach with his heroin needle and they put him away for a few months

most of these people seemed nice to me

When I was fifteen, my friend was taken to court for chages of rape but he assured me that the girl just made that up when her parents found out.

When I was 15, I got busted driving a car at night with a few friends in it. I was a few months away from being 16, had my learner's, and had in fact been driving with my dad since age 10 or so. It was dumb, but not amazingly dumb... we were just bored.

So the smartass cop is sitting there smoking, leaning on his car, waiting for the cars to come pick us all up, and giving me shit. Real big man, you know? Tough guy, can't believe how dumb I am, etc. I told him "I may be dumb enough to drive around at night when I'm 15, but I'll never be stupid enough to smoke a cigarette." Not smart, but at least he shut up.

I know plenty criminals, including some pretty serious people. I've never been involved in crime myself but with a working class upbringing in Glasgow it's more or less unavoidable.

I'd love to say more, but....you know.

this dude who was a bully in middle school to pretty much everyone is in jail though he may have gotten out now. i think it was a few years after i graduated. him and some younger kids went and beat the shit out of some homeless guy and he died from the injuries. i remember this one time when i was in middle school, me and my best friend were hanging out by this other school and that kid and another dickhead came up and started beating up my friend. i don't know why they didn't do anything to me though.

This reminds me of a segment on "This American Life" a while ago. It starts out with a guy talking about a bully he knew in high school, and how mean this bully was. He would even go so far as to cross the street to pick on someone. One time the bully pushed the guy and his cello down a flight of stairs. Then the interviewer says "And who was this guy? What was his name?" And the guy says "This man's name was Jack Abramoff." The guy then said something along the lines of "I can't tell you how satisfying it is to hear about what is happening to him. It's more than I could have ever hoped for."

How could I forget this story?:

Summers during H.S and college, I worked with my father (who is a Teamster) on the docks at McCormick Place. On one of my first days, I worked with a man named Juan.

Juan was an older Hispanic man, about my height (5'7") with a slight build. He was fairly soft spoken and very patient with me as I learned my way around driving a forklift. A good guy to work with, and a good guy, overall by what I could tell.

At the end of the day, my father swung by to pick me up, and we all walked together to our cars in the underground parking lot, laughing and telling stories of our day.

Once we got into our car, my dad asked me how my day was.
"Great."
"Juan's a pretty nice guy, huh? Used to be a cop."
"Yeah, he's really nice."
"He killed his wife, you know."

Apparently Juan came home from his shift one night and caught his wife in bed with another guy. Took out his service revolver, pointed it at the guy and said, "You. Get out. I'm not married to you."

Once the guy left, he shot her dead.

Served 10 years or something like that.
Seemed like a nice guy.

I'd say about 40% of my friends from growing up/high school are in jail or prison. One of them was the subject of a nationwide manhunt. One of them is out, but with a lowjack. Another is in "the bin".

I have a very similar tale. Not too long after my wife and I were married, we had dinner with her parents and a couple they were old friends with. The couple was very nice, probably late 50s/early 60s in age. After dinner, my wife tells me the husband had served like 10 years back in the '60s/'70s for catching his wife in the sack with another dude...but he killed THE DUDE. Upon getting out of the clink, he reconciled with the wife, and they are now a very pleasant elderly Hispanic couple.

THOSE CRAZY MESSKINS!!!

I heard he got off too...fucker.

i was most unique in high school and hated it. i felt like it was the most bland superlative just because no one could think of anything else for me.

you guys had a "most unique" category in high school? that's about the dumbest thing i've ever heard. did you go to high schools with only 50 kids in attendance or something? z, i know you went to a small one, but i didn't think it was that small.

what the hell does unique mean when it comes to teenagers?

there were 133 in my class, so it wasn't that small.

i'd probably cosign this. i've always felt i got saddled with that because of some of my projects and the, um, boisterous ways that i defended them to teachers who didn't think they were of appropriate subject matter.

I think our graduating class was 250 people? I think... and we had that "award."

girl i knew in highschool is doing 5 years for armed robbery.
in about an hour, she robbed three different tanning salons with a butcher knife. no mask or anything. the best part was in the newspaper article about it, the only description one of the tanning salon employees could give was that the perpetrator "was really pale."
most of the other criminals i know just haven't gotten caught.

I wouldn't say you're an attention whore, but you are definitely inappropriate and you have awful timing at times. Lunch at ICPAS and lunch at that mexican joint come to mind.

"Unique" might be a nice way of saying, "We want to silence him, but cannot without being arrested."

Soft cheese, my good man. Soft cheese. I've got it.
