By my reckoning there are about 30 Obner members who haven't posted a single post. Strange people....

Yeah, and who are the "hidden" members you see listed at the bottom of the main page?

you can choose in your profile whether or not to show that you're on-line. I'm guessing these people chose "NO"

I have to do this every day so as not to be confused with the message board name. It involves medical tape, a lot of gauze and pleated pants.

Well, I can't speak to anyone's thoughts but my own but it might be a tough time to just jump in. Majority of the posts seem to do with the election. That's of course fine and dandy but I think some people here are just now realizing that not everyone see things in the same light. If the majority of the folks wish to commiserate that's their right but I know I'm here to talk music. It's a rock/pop board, no? I have no problem with off topic stuff, quite the contrary. You all have a general familiarity and it will take some time for me and I suspect others to reach that level. Luckily the next election is 4 years away !

Another thing I don't get is the fasination with MP3's. Anyone care to explain that one to me?

The pace is quick, certainly quicker than at my other place which is part of obner's appeal. Just don't get some of the things that are going on here but I'm in no particular rush!

we're still mostly harmless . . . make sure that you bring a towel, though. useful things, towels.

Having 200 of your favorite albums available in a device smaller than your hand is pretty awesome.

That and file-sharing is the new cassette mix.

I guess I'm more of a gear head than most although I'm certainly not in the 'audiophile" group. While the cool factor of I-pods and clones is off the charts, I'd still prefer to listen to a CD without the lossy compression required by MP3's. I've yet to hear an MP3 that sounds as good as a .wav file and I guess that remains important to me. Clearly I'm in the minority, especially compared to younger listeners.

i think you're referring to a very small percentage of boarders. i have been posting at cmj/bb for almost two and a half years. i certainly wouldn't say that i am familiar with many others. sure, there are a few, but i think the new york and chicago contingents mostly make up that seeming comaraderie. maybe i'm completely wrong though. anyway, that's not something i'd worry about too much. jump in.

I have really bad hearing and can't pick apart a 192 kbps mp3 from a lossless format. Plus I walk or ride a train everywhere, so an ipod comes in handy for the 40+ minutes of commute. It's just nice to have your whole cd library wherever you go. My music mood changes constantly.

Note: most MP3's I have come from my cd's.
