The recent departure of frontman Chris Cornell from Audioslave was originally described as due to "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences" but sources tell the New York Post that the split had more to do with money than anything else.

Quote:
Chris was unhappy with the financial arrangement within the group - he wrote all the music, yet the other three bandmates took an equal share in the multimillion-dollar publishing rights,

Ya'd think that this was something that would have been dealth with before they formed.....These guys are hardly novice musician/business men.

Good, I'd rather have RATM making their own new music again, and Soundgarden having the remote possibility of reforming then the bland rock Audioslave was creating.

I think that Chris Cornell is one of the most-shrill frontmen in the history of rock.
Just not a fan.

This band sucked ass from the moment it was conceived by some stupid fucking record label exec.

Musicians can be "stupid fucking record label execs," too, so to speak...I wouldn't blame a bunch of higher-up types for arriving at the conclusion that this band should've ever happened. Actually, I would blame everyone involved, from top-to-bottom.

Still though, suckering Cornell into that publishing deal for 2 records (if that's what the set-up in fact was) is pretty awesome.

So does this explain why their music was so lame and nothing like the raging bull that was RATM, which was what people expected to hear in Audioslave, just with Cornell singing?

Actually, Rage sucks on an entirely different level than Audioslave.

I guess if Chris wrote all the Audioslave songs, that speaks volumes in regard to how much ass his new solo album is guaranteed to suck.

Audioslave aren't as bad as some of you make out. Not that interesting, either. But Cornell's vocals were never the problem. Mainstreaming Soundgarden was the problem. Making the music predictable and cookie cutter.

Soundgarden was Predator 1

Audioslave is more Iron Eagle 3, which despite the presence of Rachel McLish AND Fred Dalton Thomas, was not good.

damn, what was chris thinking. he'd have been better off solo.

hopefully this presages new soundgarden material.

Don't mistake me for a fan - I'm just saying, musically RATM was pretty aggressive. Audioslave was the musical equivalent of a whimper.

Cornell's solo album was excellent. We need another one of those.
