Nothing urgent, just need some advice pronto about possible booze/antibiotic interactions - the folks @ the ER didn't really give me a good answer and I prob can't get in to see my doc for a couple days.

I seem to remember we had one MD or pediatrician around here, no?

If so, drop me a PM.
Thanks!

You shouldn't mix booze with antibiotics.

Fack.
And with SXSW/The Mongerlympics looming, I could've done without this news.

im doing postgraduate pharmacology at the mo

you shouldnt really mix anything with alcohol as alcohol has alot of drug-drug interactions

i can explain in a much harder way or you can just take my word for it

I've been on plenty of drugs which don't mix with alcohol and if I know I'm going to be drinking, I just skip a dose or two. Unless you have some sort of infection (in which case, you probably wouldn't want to drink), have at it, young man.

Yeah, see, that's the problem. Looks like I'm be off the cycle by Tuesday or Wednesday, so I can still get in a fair bit of mongering down in Austin.

Shoot man. All I know is it's called Cipro.

I'm no doctor, but I've been on Cipro lots of times and it's a pretty good idea to hold off on drinking. I've always used that when I've had UTIs, so every bit of antibiotic helps during that time.

Usually with antibiotics the bad effect is they simply don't work when you add booze. Nothing horrible will happen, but you won't get rid of whatever you are taking the pills for.

don't follow this advice unless you're into pharmacokinetics. i.e. you know the half-lives and drug-drug interactions.

ciprofloxacin... i don't think it has any direct outcomes when mixed with alcohol; but it will definitely affect the efficacy of the drug; and you might get some stomach cramping... or nothing may happen. take your chances.

I don't mix antibiotics with my alcohol. Too much stirring - it takes forever for the pills to dissolve.

i wouldnt expect ciprofloxacin to have many interactions with alcohol compared to other antibiotics - wont effect the metabolism much, although you will get rid of the drug slightly faster (remember how often you piss when you're drinking) and probably absorb slightly less from your stomach

im not gonna recommend drinking but a few drinks shouldnt hurt too much

skipping doses is a much worse idea red

who is Hibby Loeler? he/she is the only one in this thread who knows what they're talking about

well, in case of an anthrax attack you'll be safe. Cipro ripped me up when I was on it last. I don't think I even wanted a drink while on it.

Its not exactly flagyl when it comes to drug/alcohol interactions, but cipro and caffeine can lead to seizures...I would expect most any antibiotic to not agree with alcohol, though.
