I've got an older version that works just fine. Anything about the new version that I simply must have, or is it just more crap I have to learn, and more crap to clog up my computer?

Toast but only if you have marmalade in.

my roommate's had compatibility issues with the new one, so until the old one stops being useful, use that. but really, use vlc for video and foobar for audio.

media player classic. I have problems with how VLC handles audio streams sometimes.

Old one. That new tries to hook you up with their crap Urge music store.

I don't see any reason not to. Like any audio program, it wants to take over as your default, so just unselect that option and deselect any other options, like the Urge store, and you'll never be bothered by it. I upgraded weeks ago and haven't had a single problem with it. I hate to ask the obvious question, but does anyone read the text in those boxes before they click the "next" button on installs?
