I'm another product of Catholic high school education. World religions were part of the morality class junior year. Jesuits, yo.

Man, a required critical thinking course in high school would be awesome.

As a part of my (Jewish, 9th grade) Confirmation class, we had to complete a 6-month unit on "Comparative Religions". During that time, we took trips to local houses of worship, including: Catholic, Lutheran, Muslim, Buddhist, Chasidic (yes, also Jewish, but still completely different than our Reform Jewish upbringing), and even B'ahai.

Sadly, the unit was limited by time and geographical constraints, as well as who would allow us to spend time in their Holy spaces.

Still, it was the most defining time of my religious education. Moreso than my Bar Mitzvah or any other Jewish tradition. It taught tolerance and really highlighted the similarities among the teachings.

Yeah, I think it's a good thing. Even if you don't get to every "major" religion, the students will get a lot out of it and (like myself) may even look to learn more about the other religions on their own.

But hellz yeah, you're going to have a lot of people fighting even the concept of such a class.
