You Am I were pretty awesome as always, but the sound during their set royally sucked. Rogers is such a great fucking frontman that he could win over any crowd though, even with those issues. At one point he was telling the soundman how great he was and then the moment he stepped away from the mic you could hear him say "fucking idiot"
I was really, really surprised how entertaining Sebadoh was. I also never realized how integral Gaffney is to the band. Live, he owned the stage. It almost seemed like his band instead of Lou's. Well, to be fair, it was really more of a democracy with all of them switching instruments every couple of songs, but Gaffney's presence was so much more dominating than either Barlow or Lowenstein. They started off with three of his songs (scars for eyes, violet execution, and another I can't recall the title of). They played mostly stuff from Smash Your Head, III, Bubble and Scrape and Weed Forestin/The Freed Man, but did delve into two Bakesale songs (Mystery Man - my favorite from that album - and Give Up). The whole crowd was into it for two straight hours. Usually I can't take a long show like that anymore, but this was really great.
Afterwards we ran into Tim Rogers at the bar and he became convinced that I was the guy that hooked him up with coke the last time they were in Chicago.
