Man, you would think news like this would prompt a phone call to your best friend that lives in the same town as you. Guess not.

Thanks for moving away after I followed your ass to a place where it's cold 7 months out of the year. Good move.

die.

Congrats. And now for a few questions...

1. What's the story on you getting fired because of the internet?
2. What kind of store is your wife opening?
3. I don't normally tell Obner people who are not Radcliffe to shut up, but shut up, Timmy. LOTS of people manage in less than ideal situations.

My first two months here (two years ago) I had a job where I mindlessly filtered through affiliate advertising applications for a company, over a hundred a day. There was a lot more "yay america / back on our feet again / support the troops" hooplah going on, and I was noticing that damn near every mom-n-pop website would slap the same three flag/eagle/firefighters banners on their sites, just to try and look patriotic. I mentioned it in a scathing (foolishly worded/titled) thread, and hotlinked an image from one of the sites of a crying bald eagle, before I knew how to 3rd party host images.

The guy followed the link, got into a big argument here, figured out where I worked, called and threatened a lawsuit, and they canned me. Oh and my wife worked the next row over from me. That was a fun day. You never wanna have a conversation with a Human Resources employee that begins with "so, what is this... 'oh-bner'...?" "It's a mis-spelling of the word Boner."

The moral of the story is to always host your images, to never take any argument quite so seriously, to not piss off e-strangers, and to never mention anything about where you work, if you can help it. In hindsight, I left all that shit lying on the table for some biggoted fuckwit to just pick up. And pick it up he did.

A modern convenience market. Bamboo floors, minimalist decor, steel wire shelving, mid/upper level goods... everything practical like cheetos and cereal, and then glass bottle coke, some organics, some not, pop tarts, smoked salmon from scotland and norway, kinda everything you need to either whip up dinner for one or go to a nice dinner party. Some beer, some wine, a huge salad bar with soup, bagels, etc., some seating inside and out, mostly to go stuff. Oh and XM indie station on the stereo all day (or whatever fickerson and them wanna to listen to). Located in the bottom floor of a new condo building, with house accounts for the residents (we charge their card @ end of the week, they save maybe 2%, we save closer to 5% by not having all those transaction costs). www dot mocomarket dot com. Pretty much 100% the wife's doing (I say this out of humility - she's done an amazing job for which I don't deserve any credit).

Again, Timmy's fine. They're valid points. Points we've considered at length, and are comfy with. It's gonna be a little sad, be very workable. We're excited.

It's probably a little late in the game for me to bring this up, but "moco" is Spanish for "booger." It's a cool name, either way, though.

Pretty much everything about this story is great, right down to your wife hiring our own beloved fick.

I clicked on the map from that website, and perhaps the coolest thing about this entire operation is TEH BOOGER MART IS ON AN ISTHMUS!!!

Yeah, the glass bottle coke is coming from a mexican distributor (cuz down there it's sweetened with cane, not high fructose corn syrup, tastes better), and they giggled when they heard the name. Oh well.

Man, it's attention to detail like that (going with cane sugar over corn syrup) which is going to make TEH BOOGER MART a success! Seriously, The First Mate is on the ball, Ky. If this goes well, might she eventually open a second store near Hahvahd and/or BeeCee?

Cane sugar, I'm guessing... not moco = "booger."

I'm just hoping that Kraft is the more prosecuted company from the Altria spinoff over the next 20 years. High-fructose corn syrup is the devil.

Apparently one of the examples they use in the book/info-mercial is if you really want a bike and you think REAL hard (and positively), then you'll have a bike.

It's fucking bullshit and Oprah is now peddling it. I saw it on VH1 Best Week Ever and figured I could get a few chuckles from Obnish who knew what I was referencing. So, there ya go.

That sounds an awful lot like scientology.

One of my friends who happens to not be a moron told me about that book. She's into it hook, line and sinker. I guess one day she was sitting around pouting about not having money and started thinking really hard about getting money and found a few checks and a $20 bill laying around the house.

I've been thinking really hard almost daily for years for a rich man to sweep me off my feet and tell me that I never have to work again and it hasn't happened yet. The Secret sux.

Send your resume, here. They apparently have a club in Lexington, Ky., as well, which is the closest to Chicago.

I'll be around saturday, of course! I won't go till like June, after graduation.

Timmy's fine. He asks valid questions, and if we hadn't really considered that stuff we could be walking into a nightmare. It's gonna be fine, and we both know that if it becomes too much of a strain, then it's reversible (and I'll have great work experience / salary history to build on). But that's not the plan: I wanna work there, very very badly. I'm going to ENJOY this.

Yes, this means a new bike, the second I can arrange it. Yes Phil, you could buy my bike, if you wanted it. I doubt you do, but if you did, sure. If I get something else, it's gonna go. Unless I kept it as a "bad weather" bike...
