Men at Work.

Everytime I hear something of theirs on TV or elsewhere, I just get a good feeling. Except for that vegamite sammich crap.

To me, they were harmless catchy Top 40 pop. Quite enjoyable.

I really fackin' hate taht band.

I remember they were on the charts the same time as that other Aussie "Men" band -- Men Without Hats which I greatly prefer.

Really really talented songwriter, that guy. Some of those lesser hits come out of the woodwork these days and spook me with how good they are.

I always assumed they were aussie because I have a bunch of 80's aussie surf movies that used their non-hits on their soundtracks. Never bothered to confirm that though.

There's about a dozen of their non-hits I absolutely love.

Tracks like "People Just Love To Play With Words," "Down By The Sea," "Blue For You," "Underground," "High Wire,""Helpless Automaton."

Great stuff.

Colin Hay's few and far between solo albums also are strong.

However, there is no forgiving "Dr. Heckyl & Mr. Jive."
Terrible, terrible.

"I Can See It Your Eyes" is their best song. I'll post it when I'm back at the home Mac later.

If I were to make a mix it wouldn't have their hits, except maybe "Overkill."

Probably look like this:

I Can See It In Your Eyes
Settle Down My Boy
People Just Love To Play With Words
Blue For You
Man With Two Hearts
Touching The Untouchables
Down By The Sea
Underground
Upstairs In My House
Stay At Home
Catch A Star
Helpless Automaton
Hard Luck Story
No Sign Of Yesterday
I Like To
Snakes & Ladders
High Wire
Children On Parade

Those are ones I can think of I used to like. There's probably a few more good ones.

My wife fell in love with this verson of "Overkill", so she ended up buying "Man @ Work". OK, in a novelty sort of way.

Yet another band whose few hits have been so overplayed that most people assume there's nothing worth checking out in their slim catalog.

But tracks like "Blue For You" should have been hits, too. Much better tunes on the three albums than "Who Can It Be Now."

Overkill was a regular cover of ours when Busty and I had the otherwise worthless covers gig.

I've got the greatest hits CD. Their stuff has held up really well in comparison to a lot of their contemporaries - probably because it wasn't recorded in the US.

"Overkill" is a GREAT song.

M@W...hmmm. I suppose if I was in a bar drinking with friends and they came on, it'd be fun for a larf, but if I'm sitting at home or driving in my car, I can think of infinite number of things to listen to prior.
