from Saturday on cnn.com:

Quote:
LONDON, England (CNN) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says an attack on Iran over its nuclear program is "not on the agenda at this point."

"We have many diplomatic tools still at our disposal and we intend to pursue them fully," Rice told a news conference Friday after a meeting with British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw.

"diplomatic tools" meaning threatening to fucking bomb them.

I think middle class Americans have been fucking duped. The federal government is acting like a kid with a credit card. As I was that kid in college I can tell you it does not work out so well in the end.

They haven't been duped at all. They just place more importance on the projects and the record amount federal dollars being siphoned out of Washington and into their own back yard. This also contributes to the incredible incumbent retention rate and lack of a real groundswell of support to and end to the gerrymandering issue.

Most people are not of above average intelligence, nor do they have a keen sense of U.S. history and political maneuverings. That does not stop them from being extremely selfish.

Hell, we have to re-elect Congressman So-and-So. He got us federal funds for them bomb robots. That will help us secure our homeland in the event of a terrorist attack. Not that we've had a significant number of legitimate bomb scares in the past 20 years, but it could happen, and now we are prepared.

Isn't Barbara Boxer in CA doing this though? She was very tame throughout her Congressional re-election, but now she's getting in everyone's face (but also knows that her career is over). I guess she feels like she might as well go down fighting.

The illusion is lasting
Such beautiful masking
We hold it in our arms
It's all just varying degrees of con-artistry
But no one seems alarmed
No one seems alarmed

The system's not doing anything we're not letting it do and approving of.

And do you propose maybe that we who don't approve can just up and walk into The White House and go "Hey, dudes, we want you to stop this stuff we don't approve of, like, now?"

If by "we" you mean the 51% who voted for this duplicitious dick, fine. But the rest of the nation has become "them" and can't do jackshit about what Bush is up to except complain loudly and do grassroots work to make sure his people are gone next time around.

Well in our form of government, that seems to be the only 'we' that matters, so yes, that is what I meant.

Is it me, or does Condie look particularly evil in this pic, taken while she was making her "next steps" remarks about Iran (from CNN.com):

Mansteak should perform a song about it.

The piece would be like the R. Kelly golden shower video, mixed with the Clash, and stage-managed by Michael Moore.

In 1992, the winning side, the "we's" pulled an astonishing 43% of the popular vote. In 1996, the winning "we's" pulled 49% of the popular vote. Where's all the foot-stomping and tantrum throwing about Clinton not having a claim to govern as an executive?

Besides, the White House is not controlling every piece of policy in the entire nation. To focus discontent solely on the shoulders of GWB, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and any one else with (R) behind their name is irresponsible and foolish.

There are thousands of legislators, executives and jurists who have an active hand in shaping policy and public opinion. Most of those thousands have a broad base of support from their constituents. These voters tend to be swayed by the Houstonian argument, "What have you done for me lately", i.e. if Olympia Snowe secures millions of federal dollars for a free range chicken resort for her voters in Maine, chances are they will look past a vote against background checks at gun shows.

Mansteak isn't really wrong. We are allowing it, and for the most part, we approve of it. Unless it's someone else's pork project, of course.

Seriously, she looks like she got a hold of some bad weed. Oh, and Matt... I am angry, but my energy is waning because all I do is work and sleep.

I'm certainly not so thick to think Bush & Co. are responsible for everything. I was addressing his policies and the fact that I believe time and again he has been duplicitous, fabricated crises, promised the moon with no intention to deliver, played red states like a fine violin, and pretty much has been a self-righteous, smug son of a whore while the nation becomes increasing fractious, civil rights erosion becomes accepted, manifest destiny becomes our moral right, imposing our will on others is equated with justice and moral fortitude, and nasty, cretinous henchmen are portrayed as men of great character. It turns my stomach, as does the amused response by Bush fans that I'm just a sore loser. Supporters of this prick may benefit in the short term but this country is in horrible trouble in the long term.

But of course there's plenty of localized pork bullshit.

But I'm not on television, I'm not a journalist, I'm not a politician, so it doesn't affect much for me to be angry. So yeah - why isn't anyone with a voice of authority angry???

This is exactly my father's statement regarding his own conservative friends that still support "this Prick". I should note that my father has been a lifelong staunch Republican, age 77 now.
