Yeah, it is....now let's hope he's being honest & accurate. This IS a radio guy we're talking about here.

Good point.

Yes and No on him being a 'radio guy'. The radio station was a gift after all from his very rich parents. He became a 'radio guy' when the station was bought for him.

Note to self: aquire rich parents who like tyo give me gifts.

Parents: "Honey, what do you most want for your birthday?"
Son: "Hmmm...I've always wanted my own radio station."

Parents: "Okay."

I've forgotten who his parents are, but they're supposedly big cheeses in the entertainment industry. And Michael has basically acquired a lot of friends (ie, Steve Jones, etc) via his family and invited them to work at his little hobby of a radio station. Life ain't too shabby for him, I guess.

Note to self: become friends of Michael's rich parents...however, refrain from meeting the likes of Dickie Barrett...and, because you like the girls with the cellophane chests, attempt to get real paid.

Note to self: If new rich parents won't buy me a radio station, try for an Oompa Loompa or a Goose that lays Golden Eggs. Try not to step on quality control measurer.

“And although Indie's overall market ranking is modest, in the key 25- to 34-year-old demographic group it outdid KCBS-FM (Arrow 93.1) and KLOS-FM (95.5) during the latest ratings period, fall 2004.” LA Times

-------------------------Fa’03 Wi’04 Sp’04 Su’04 Fa’05

KROQ-FM Infinity Alternative 4.4 4.1 4.4 4.3 4.1

Indie 103.1 Entravision Alternative 0.8 0.6 0.8 0.6 0.7

The overall ratings are about the same as the dance station it took over. I do believe that this station is more profitable because of the key 25 to 34 year old demographic group. It’s similar to CBS winning the ratings race last year but NBC collecting more money because of this group.

It will be interesting to see if it continues because MARS-FM was pulled with these similar numbers. I believe that 103.1 is cursed because no matter what they try there it always fails and has gone thru many, many format changes (including Spanish). That damn signal is just too weak for many people to pick up and wonder how good the numbers would be if on a different frequency. If it does get pulled, I can see it resurfacing somewhere else. Maybe Disney owned KLOS would change over because Active Rock is so dead (as a format) but still has decent numbers. This format, if done right, would do very well in Los Angeles with a decent signal. KROQ is an institution and the most profitable rock station on earth. When Indie103.1 came on the air it had to look at it’s play list and make changes. Now, while it still sucks, plays much better music and had a whole night of Indie Rock bands at its recent Christmas concert.

KROQ plays better music? You're kidding, right? Excluding Rodney's show, KROQ does NOT play better music. They lost their vision a long time ago.

I was at that show. It should have been called the Indie Acoustic Christmas. Granted Indie has helped KROQ, TO AN EXTENT, it still plays far to much numetal, regurgitated crap for me.

I will truly feel despondent if Indie goes off the air. It's an example of brilliant local radio, an anomoly in the corporate contolled radio world.

KROQ wouldn't have started playing Modest Mouse, Postal Service, The Shins, Arcade Fire, Interpol, The Walkmen, etc. if it weren't for Indie. They never played any "indie" type stuff until Indie 103 came around. (With the exception of Rodney's show, and Jed the Fish's pick of the day.) They know they have competition.

Agreed. It was almost comical how quickly they started playing the Shins. If Indie goes, does KROQ go back too? I wonder.
