so the defragger that i got is a 'lite' version, thus i can't schedule a defrag time or get it to run on startup; everything has to be done manually. What i need is a good defragger that's free, and has all of the basic options.

yeah, the one that comes with windows is fine. you might want to look around a little more. in earlier versions of windows you could right click the c:\ drive in the my computer window and it would give you some maintenaince options. i dont know about xp, but you might want to at least give it a go.

nah, I'm on XP Home and I've got it

aren't you in New Zealand or Australia?...does MS ship different versions of their OS to different countries?...that's the only reason I can think of

have you checked Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance?

when i do that, the 'official' maintenance option is Diskeeper Lite. That's why i'm looking for a new, free defragger....

all right, now we're talking. for this, youll need bittorrent. you can use the official client, but there are better ones out there. since i moved over to mac, ive started using azureus. it works well and its fairly simple. back when i was using windows, i used bittornado, and thats what i would recommend for you. there are other ones around, but this should be enough to get you started. next, go to novatina. from there you can search for all kinds of stuff, but perfectdisk seems like a good program, so search for that. i just checked and there is a copy of perfectdisk 7 available, so download the torrent file. its just a small file. next, open whatever bittorrent client you downloaded, and open the torrent file you downloaded. let it do its business, and voila, thats it!
