Classic as in they are replaying the old shows with Fab Five Freddy (or) Ed Lover and Dr. Dre?

or...

New Yo! show with classic hip hop videos?

Either way, I'm fucking pumped!

When does it come on??

I used to watch YO! every day after school.

How did VH1 acquire the rights to play this show?

Same parent company, I believe. (Viacom, n'est-ce pas?)

MTV, MTV2, Vh1, Vh1-C are owned by the same corporation.

I keep VH1 Classic on through The Alternative and now I'll have Yo! on Sundays, even when I'm doing other stuff. Trying to get my kids to sponge up stuff so they won't think the past is encapsulated by the crud I play in my day job.
It's my way of going to church every Sunday.

Which begs the question: Why have they not tapped into the brilliant well that is the classic episodes of MTV Unplugged; Just the REM, Pearl Jam, Cure, Allmans and Nirvana ones would make my 2005.

P.S. that REM episode kicks ayuss

This afternoon was a good, good time.

That's quality 6 hours spent.

Most particularly, Boogie Down Productions.

Oh yeah.

I caught all of it 'cept for the last hour (had to watch the tourney selection show).

Good Lord. That show was like Yankees' Murderer's Row back in the day. It's easy to think that the late 80s/early 90s "golden age" we so often hear about is just rose-colored glasses and revisionist history, but it honest to goodness was incredible. I kept looking for edits; where they switched out some crap video for a classic but I never noticed any. Those were the real deal.

Any day I hear BDP, PE, Tribe, De La, Rob Base/DJ EZ ROC, NWA, Del, Black Sheep, Eric B & Rakim, LL, Digital Underground, Naughty By Nature, Kwame, Dre/Snoop and Geto Boyz all in close proximity - Chad's a happy man.

Gotta second the call for Unplugged. That HAS to be the next logical step.

Agree with Spoon; until football season comes arond there's no reason to switch the TV from VH-1C on Sundays.

Can I get a witness?![/b]

Completely agree. My rap/hiphop collection is pathetic, but, if I were to build it up, this afternoon I was reminded again and again what I'd fill it up with.

Last week I sent in an order to BMG that was all rap, including the debuts for PE, Snoop, Tribe, NWA, B.I.G., GZA, Tricky, Missy, OutKast and some of the heavy hitters by EPMD and Jay-Z.

Stuff I should have already, but don't.

I felt like such a pretender watching that today. I'm loving it now, but I remember when I was 11 or 12 my uncle would come over to play videogames/watch me and I'd pitch a fit when he wanted to turn on "Yo!" because the only rap I liked was Young MC, Hammer and Fresh Prince. Me = not smart.

They should do a one hour industrial show, too. Get Ministry, Meat Beat Manifesto, Pailhead, Nitzer Ebb, Skinny Puppy type videos on and mix in stuff like Minor Threat, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys here and there.

Anyone see the
Yo! MTV Raps Unplugged show?

It fucking killed.

De La Soul
A tribe called Quest

And still, the guy who stole the show was
LL COOL J

He opened with "Mama said Knock You Out" and it slayed.
