Coversation just an hour ago w/ middle-aged mom, a coworker and 80's metal / new hardcore rap fan (oh, and she's wearing a black t-shirt w/ Motley Crue in kinda gay pink letters):

her - "Saw Motley Crue this weekend."
me - "... oh yeah? Uh, how was that?"
her - "Good. Great, except Vince kept forgetting the lyrics."
me - (look of disbelief) "Forgot the lyrics?!? What else has he got to do, lo these last few lonely years, except listen to his own records? How did he forget his own lyrics?"
her - "Well, he was running around a lot, maybe he was just winded. (big pause, some reflection on her part) And they were all drinking."

I just thought I'd share. So how does Vince forget his own lyrics?!? If he screws this up, what's out there for him? Pumping gas?

If the stories about Vince et al., are to be believed, then one of the inevitable consequence of all of those years of heavy boozing is going to be some fairly profound prefrontal cortex damage, resulting in, among other things, memory disturbances, particularly recall. If that is the reason he's forgetting his song lyrics, he's got to be a delight to be around as the last thing to go when one has suffered brain damage is well-learned material.

That being said, maybe he hates Motley Crue as well and doesn't want to listen to them either.

I think alot of it has to do with him getting winded way to easy more thenhim actually fogetting the lyrics. I have met him a few times over the last few years, and he does seem to have all his senses about him....The last solo show I saw of his, he was fine through the first 5 songs, then it was like he fell off the mountain. Then he would sing half a line, then hope the fans pick up the rest.

One of tyhe main reasons why I decided to skip the NYC show a few weeks back.

Wow! 5 songs and he's tapped out. Well, he has done a lotta haaaard livin. I'd believe that theory over the "forgetting" theory, personally.

hey man, 5 songs could be 20 minutes. I'd be asleep if I were jumping around for 20 minutes.

This story reminds me of Axl Rose and that MTV show where they "announced" their comeback 5 years ago, and were never heard from again.

Vince is destined to take part in a Motley Crue cover band after the guys finally break up, where yes, he will also forget the lyrics.

You know, if I were Vince Neil, I'd be trying my hardest to forget Motley Crue lyrics...

Hell, it's been years since I listened to anything by tham, and I try really hard to forget them....

Hasn't worked yet for me - big ups to Vince for succeeding in that category. And for some of the kinky stuff he had the balls/sheer audacity to do off that they talked about in the Crue book. But mostly for the "forgetting lyrics" thing...
