I left feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Apostle of Hustle, who opened on the other hand, was a colossal disappointment. Def catch Stars if they come to your hood.

R.I.Y.L.??

I just heard yesterday to check them out and noticed they were at the Empty Bottle on Saturday. Damn.

riyl: arts & crafts, like broken social scene and the ilk

i found them to be rather boring and not connecting with the crowd at all, like them and us were two entirely separate entities. i want a band to at least seem as though they somewhat enjoy performing, but they didn't really. and i'd like maybe half of a song before it droned away and lost my attention. you know how people say a band has a big sound? like, "wow, i can't believe there are only 3 people in that band!" well, apostle of hustle was the opposite. four people combined to make a really small sound. although, i did admit that i might like them more recorded. eh, we'll see. i kinda forgot about them after stars anyway.

Just bought Stars new one last night. I'm enjoying it so far. Chances are they won't roll through Indy but it's good to know it's a show worth catching if they do. I also picked up Low: 'The Great Destroyer', I'm thinking about starting a new thread about that one even though I haven't listened to it yet.

I think that's a fine idea.

Picked up the new one at Amoeba this weekend while in San Fran. Only given it one listen, but like what I hear so far. Sucks they're not coming near Madison.

This is exactly how I felt about Stars both times I saw them on the "Heart" tour.

Stars were amazing the couple of times I saw them open for Broken Social Scene last year.

Their new album is really good too, but I prefer the last one.

I think Stars would be an amazing band if they let the female singer be their primary vocalist and got rid of the guy. I think he has a mediocre voice & really serves no purpose in their live show.

That being said I know nothing about the internal workings of this band and he may write all the lyrics or something. When she was singing, they had this cool sexy vibe, and when he was out front they seemed like an 80's British nostalgia cover band.

He makes me want to kick myself in the balls. He kept using the term "jazzy" both times I saw them and was drinking red wine on stage.

well, i guess he's changed because he never said "jazzy" and the only drink was something clear in a plastic cup. his interaction with the rest of the band and the crowd was good. and he looked like he was having the best time ever.

although, i can certainly appreciate your plight because i have been turned off by certain band members and then someone says, "are you kidding?! they're the best part."

I love seeing the Stars live. I'm definitely more of a fan of their live show than the recordings.

Torq is a great frontman, maybe he was a having a bad night. (??)

Apostle of Hustle are cool too. Their stuff might be a little harder to pick up in a live situation as it has a tendency to meander quite a lot. I've heard their album quite a lot at work and it's definitely a slowburn. Very nice stuff.

...and a big "yes" to starting a Low - Destroyer thread. I love that album.
