If Barry does this, he'll be my favorite president ever. EVER.

Obama said
Quote:
"We need to simplify a monstrous tax code that is far too complicated for most Americans to understand, but just complicated enough for the insiders who know how to game the system,"

it would be great, but do you really think it could happen. . . it just seems like this gordian knot that is impossible to unwind

And how did they SOLVE the Gordian Knot?

I have been saying for a while that Dems have a good opportunity to change the game by actually coming out against taxes - in a smart way like simplifying the tax code.

If we can't do it now, then it might never happen. As much as I ridiculed his "change, we can believe in" slogan. If this is what he meant, buy me some crow.

This cynical heart just might become a true believer.

exactly, snip snip. i'm not saying tax reform can't/won't happen--same with healthcare reform--i'm just saying i'm conditioned to believe that the gov't tends to serve its own purposes (i.e. reelection) with the status quo and reliance on voter malaise/low expectations.

i'm also a big advocate of "if not now, when"

so, will these reforms need to go through Congress?...or does he have the power to do most of these hisself?

if it's gotta go through Congress, then I'm kinda in the Gordian Knot camp

i read most of the haa and it's not bad at all--and certianly most succinct that clinton's hundreds of pages document. the point about "aligning of the stars" with lots of folks losing their employer-based healthcare either when they lose their job or when their struggling company reduced contributions is an interesting point that hadn't occurred to me.

O letting the US kill the pirates via snipers, which could have been a Jimmy Carter type disaster, gives me hope. Given that he came from the cesspool of Chicago politics , I feel much better about him than when I voted for him. Hope he continues to surprise.
