You can't be serious?

I don't follow it but I'll acknowledge that it's going to be here for a long time if not for good.

I am dead serious. I can watch a bit of it, but it can't keep my attention like boxing can. I think it'll die a slow death and go back to relative obscurity, just like poker on TV will (and is already starting to do).

Looks like Kimbo is going to have to go to another circuit in order to get his rematch.

Quote:
Reports: EliteXC tells employees, fighters it's out of business

The parent company of the EliteXC mixed martial arts circuit is closing its doors for good, according to multiple reports. Sherdog.com reported that according to T.J. Thompson, an executive at ProElite Inc., he was informed that the company would close for good this week and would file for bankruptcy protection. And Sports Illustrated, on its Web site, reported that ProElite told its employees and fighters on Monday that it was shutting down, effective immediately, according to multiple sources.

Sherdog also reported that according to numerous sources, an EliteXC card scheduled for Nov. 8 in Reno, Nev., has been canceled. According to the report, Joey Villasenor, who was scheduled to fight Robbie Lawler for the circuit's middleweight title on the card, was informed Monday it had been scrubbed.

ProElite did not return calls seeking comment, according to the reports.

The shutdown follows an EliteXC card televised by CBS on Oct. 4, in which the circuit's biggest star, Kimbo Slice, suffered a 14-second TKO at the hands of a relatively unknown last-minute replacement, Seth Petruzelli. That bout is under investigation by the Florida State Athletic Commission, following comments Petruzelli made after the fight suggesting that he had been promised monetary incentives to trade punches with Slice, rather than employ a more technical game plan.

Showtime Networks, which owns a 20 percent stake in ProElite, on Sept. 17 filed a notice with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announcing its intention to enter negotiations to purchase the company outright.

But SI.com reported that according to a source inside ProElite, those negotiations failed and ProElite's funding disappeared, forcing it out of business.

They were a terrible company/outfit, but having MMA fights on network tv was brilliant. They should have done a saturday/sunday wide world of sports type bout.
I thought their quasi partnership with affliction might save them for a bit longer.
The recent UFC event in the UK was pretty shitty from what I saw as well, so I think MMA might be entering a waning period.

Following last night I will never again spend money on a Silva headlined event. Absolutely pathetic showing by him and Leites (though I guess I could forgive Silva as Leites just flopped, if not for how horrible it was with Cote in his last fight).

Also, hate to say it, but I'm glad it looks like Chuck is finally ready to call it quits.

The Silva fight was terrible. First off front kicks directly to the knee, absolutely disgraceful. They serve no point other than to shatter/completely tear someone's knee, and he threw them repeatedly. You can't stomp a knee when someone's down, you shouldn't be able to do this, things like that are going to revert this from sport to the mindless beatings it was in it's earliest incantations. On top of that, Leites just flopped straight to the back at the first sign of Silva moving forward, however, at no point did Silva really move forward strong. I'm sorry, but if you're being touted as the best P4P fighter in the world, you need to look to finish fights, don't dance in the cage (which he did). Everytime Fedor walks in, he is looking to end a fight, haven't seen that from Silva the past two fights, and he's been thrown absolute cans at that. Not to mention the rumblings of greasegate part 2, as he blatantly took the vaseline from his face and rubbed it on his arms and chest before the fight. I say let him out of his contract and let him go box like he wants to. No loss as far as I'm concerned, there are plenty of 185ers with a lot of class and respect that will serve the sport better than him.

Shogun knocked Chucked out obviously. It's weird though, it wasn't real exciting. It kind of puts in perspective. Five years ago these matchups (this one, Wandi and Chuck, Hendo, Hughes, and Franklin big fights coming up, Nog and Mir (no knock on Mir, he's got a lot of years ahead of him)) would have been dreams. But these guys are past their prime now, and honestly I don't see a lot of young promise to replace them. This crop of older fighters are responsible for progressing the sport to the level it is now. Who is going to do that now? Rashad (who I think will get destroyed by Machida)? Maia? Thiago? Torres or Faber? It's a bit of an awkward time I think for MMA. We are waiting for the next great fighter to emerge, the responsibility could have fallen on Andersen but he has been exposed for what he is at this point and will never be the face of MMA in my opinion. GSP doesn't have the personality, maybe BJ? I don't know, this will be an interesting year for MMA I think. This might be the time period that makes it or it crumbles.

Also, Stann got wrecked as expected, and Kongo looked great again, hopefully Kongo will get a shot at Mir sometime this year (if he can stay consistent).
