Not a great finish, though.

Very good effort by the US. Brazil just has too much talent.

Or you could say, bed shitting.

Remember that week when we were soccer fans?

It wasn't a choke job, and yes it should have been 4-2.

The United States played exceedingly well for a decent team the first half and used all the talent and energy it had to take a 2-0 halftime lead. Brazil came out the 2nd half guns a blazing and blew the Americans off the field. If they hadn't given up the quick 2nd half goal, they might have held on to take it, but I'm thinking Brazil still would have tied it up and at least forced overtime.
The Americans essentially needed a miracle to win, and it probably came when the one goal wasn't counted for Brazil.
It was a much better performance than that 3-0 debacle in pool play. It would have been nice to win, but being that it was their first ever time in a FIFA related Championship, they did damn fine.

Well said. I completely agree.

I'm looking forward to seeing some new faces in the Gold Cup and then on to WC qualifying matches.

Yeah, I wouldn't say they choked. The goal early in the second was the killer, a bit unlucky going right between the defender's legs too. Highly entertaining match though. As was the end of Spain/SA...that bomb of a free kick by SA was insane.

a 2-0 lead in soccer is basically the equivalent of a 20-0 lead in football

you can't overcome that size deficit without some help from the team in front

ha, yeah, chokejob...Brazil has guys like Pato who never even see the field...while we were throwing out a Connor Casey (who I hope never sees the field again for the US)...yet we still stood toe-to-toe with them and the match wasn't decided until the final minutes...this was a great tournament for the US in so many ways

guys like Davies, Demerit, and Feilhaber really took advantage of their playing time and will be seeing a lot more in the future...Donovan was the leader that we always hoped he would be...Howard and Onyewu were outstanding, as always

and as happy as I am with the results, it's pretty clear that the team isn't...they were clearly dejected and this is going to be something that is going to be gnawing at them for the next year...Donovan was great after the game when he was asked if the US gained respect from this tournament, he said We don't want respect, we want the win...I love where their head's at

now go to Azteca and get that first ever win!...kick the Mex when they're down!

part of it was Brazil and part of it was due to the biggest weakness we still need to work on, maintaining possession

I'm guessing that will dictate the outcome of what looks like a very competitive battle for the center mid positions

clearly, i don't know what i'm talking about...but i gotta get in my kneeejerk reactions, even for sports i don't follow

based on what all of you are saying, it sounds more like a case that it was pretty incredible for us to have even gotten up 2-0 to begin with, as opposed to being a travesty that the lead was lost

i will rescind my original comment, which now appears to have been the only choke job in this thread LOL

But you won't rescind that comment you made at Deadspin to the effect of "Epic FEILhaber"?

+1

it was a valiant effort by a team, that for all intents and purposes, shouldn't've been there the way they playing in the 1st half of the tournament. tournaments are funny though and sometimes wonky things happen. i've happy we were there and it was a pleasant surprise to see them ahead. unfortunately reality came crashing down after a really well handled 1st period of play.
