Yeah, they are just a back-up band for his "Eraser" material, which makes it seem more odd for Flea to take part.

I dunno. I might not be the biggest RHCP fiend, but I can at least appreciate his musicianship. Being a non-player, or at least a very weak one, I can't really ring in on him technically--PoD? Bloor? But I do know he's consistently ranked in the top 20, if not top 10 of all-time bass players.

For me, and I'm hardly a qualified judge, I just never felt any sort of originality from him. He's showy, and certainly talented, but I feel like he overplays a lot of the time (although I guess he's supposed to with RHCP) and his talent isn't entirely unique, other than the fact that he's allowed to run wild with it on platinum albums.

Technical prowess is just one, small aspect of playing an instrument, which seems to be the most important part to the majority of bad musicians. Most people can't get their head around this.
