I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Bruce Springsteen and the Legendary E Street Band play in the 'swamps of Jersey' last night. But more remarkably was the entirety of "Darkness on the Edge of Town" played midway through the set.

Darkness made this show incredible. It's amazing to hear an album front to back, as a suite of songs along the narrative that it was recorded, and we couldn't have been luckier to catch this particular set (as opposed to Born to Run and Born in the USA twice each of the other 4 nights of this stand, though BTR is my favourite album). The Something in the Night, Candy's Room, Racing in the Street sequence is so captivating, but the whole album was played with such refinement, richness and feeling, the band (minus Danny) conjuring up some of that same low emotion from 31+ years ago. I would argue, against some, that Darkness didn't take the crowd out of it, but just brought everything down to a more reflective notch. And appropriately so, because that's the downcast/hopeful nature of the album. This was a show for the die-hards, more so than tonight will be. I'd sacrifice the spontaneity of a setlist for an album's worth of this quality material – I would love to hear a full River show, unannounced – almost any night. Having been to a funeral yesterday, but to end the day in the light of the Darkness on the Edge Town, in New Jersey, from Toronto, with my family, pretty baked, with the breeze in the rain, in the pit for my first time, was one of the greatest concert experiences of my life.

Ladies and gentlemen, Prove it All Night, Nils Lofgren & the Bruce Springsteen Band.

Damn, that sounds awesome. I would love to see any Springsteen album up to and including Born In The USA played in that manner.

Sorry for the loss.

I'm seeing Bruce for the first time on the 25th. I'd go crazy if they did this there, it's definately my favorite album of his.

Though I'm still jealous of you seeing Darkness, I just got back from the first Born in the USA show...and I must say they knocked it out of the park. Plus, towards the end we got Jersey Girl, Kitty's Back (!), Detroit Medley and then Thunder Road. It's been over 15 years since I last saw Bruce, and there's no way I should have waited that long.

oh wow! i was curious about this show tonight. we wanted to go back, but due to time and due to darkness we elected for a different kind of night. that sounds incredible. i am extremely jealous of jersey girl, and kitty's (which was on last night's written setlist). sounds incredible. to be honest – while it was all bliss – with the exception of 10th avenue freezeout, be true, jailhouse rock, long walk home, it was a pretty standard show on paper. but the intensity of darkness carried the whole night to a high time.

Jealous still...

Confirm this (especially if he would skip Mary Queen of GARkansas if he did Greetings)

I would personally really fucking dig seeing Born in the USA. Bruce albums up to that point are all so awesome that it's hard to pick where to rank them, but I have a weird fascination with BITU.

Haha, yeah. I've actually been laying in the weeds in this thread waiting for someone to disparage BITUSA so I can go nuts on them.

Born to Run in its entirety at Sommet Center here in Nashville on Nov.18. I've never seen Bruce, femdisco is a fan, but decent tix are $67.50 and $100 (not including tax).

I'm not crazy about born in the usa, its definitely my least favorite Bruce/E-street album. But it has less to do with the songs and more to do with the 80s production that was typical of the time.
