You need THIS:

HERE is a description of the show.

And you can buy it HERE!

I am currently borrowing the DVD from the HoP drummer and have actually exchanged emails with the show's producer, Rick Sebak. He sent me a VERY COOL signed poster from the show. It is hanging in a place of honor in the HoP rehearsal space.

SEE THIS DOCUMENTARY! IT IS A-MAZ-ING!!!

Thanks for the link! I was looking for the site last night and kept getting 404'd. I've seen it a couple of times and I strangely never get habituated to the delicious things on screen. Those bbq sandwiches in Houston get me ever time. If the fortune ever comes my way, I'll hit ever single one of the places on that doc and die a happy man.

I think that would make a great road trip vacation.

My wife and I have actually talked about doing this someday. I think it would be totally fun and a really cool way to see different areas of the US. Also, it would be delicious.

Me and all my friends have discussed this. I'm sure once my wife sees this (we're gonna watch it together tomorrow night), WE"ll start talking about it.

I'm dyin' for:
Beef Brisket @ Thelma's BBQ in Houston ("That bread ain't good for nothin' but sopping up the sauce.")

Lobster Rolls @ Red's in Maine

and, for the record... there are better Italian Beefs in Chicago than Mr. Beef (although they ARE good there). And the guys who own it are genuinely assholish to anyone they don't recognize who comes through their door.

You just name checked Number 1 and 2 on my hit list: Thelma's BBQ and those Maine Lobster Rolls. Jesus, I'm salivating just thinking about those two sandwiches.

If you want to make it even more interesting, check out Blue Highways by William Least Heat Moon. He traveled most of the country via the "blue highways" or state/county highways but no interstates whatsoever. It's fascinating, even if things have changed in the past 25-30 years a bit.

Everytime I drive home from hell (work) I have the strong urge to just keep going "somewhere else." I think this sensation first started when I was like 8 years old. NEED ROAD TRIP ARRAARGH!!

Also:

Does anyone have love for the Peanut Butter and Bannana sandwich? I know it is very basic but damn it is delicious.

Ha. I'm eating one right now. Open face and I mixed it up by cooking the bananas this morning with a dab of honey and some cinnamon. I'm not big on breakfast, but I'm supposed to take my meds with food.

I found lobster rolls to be over priced, and small, and I don't like small.

Premontti (sp) Brothers in Pittsburgh serves up one of the mongerous creations known to man. The sandwich has fries and coleslaw on it. The legend is the guys opened up a shop to sell lunch to steelworkers, but forgot plates and utensils, so they threw everything on the sandwich. So good I had to buy the t-shirt.

I am also a HUGE fan of WaWa Italian hoagies and Meatball subs. Everytime I go to Philly you can bet I eat this at least twice. There is one near my friend's in Conshy that has provided too many late night meals to imagine.

Oh, and anything Elvis related is so wrong it don't get no righter. Stu, I will be appropriating that one in the near future.

I loves me a good sammich!

Jimmy Johns has great medium-rare roast beef.

Mr. Submarine in Chicago has decent sandwiches but their extra cheap prices make up for any lack of taste. You can get a whole combo with chips and a drink for under $5.

Panera, Corner Bakery and those other "upscale" fast food joints all have good sandwiches but can get a little expensive to eat at every day for lunch.

I'm not a huge fan of Quiznos, too expensive for what you get. And, I like my cold cuts, cold. Certain subs benefits from toasting though.

I think I'll go to Schlotzky's for lunch today. They've got black pepper potato chips that absolutely RAWK. :rawk:

Roast Pork sandwich from Café Colao on Division (just west of Rockwell) here in Chicago is the BOMB! Get it with the works, and it can't be beat!

'Fat Darrell' named best sandwich
Thursday, August 19, 2004 Posted: 10:04 AM EDT (1404 GMT)

NEW BRUNSWICK, New Jersey (AP) -- What do you call a sandwich made of chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and french fries?

Around here, it's called a Fat Darrell -- and you also can call it a winning combo.

The "Fat Darrell" has been crowned the best sandwich in the country by Maxim magazine.

The concoction was created early one morning in 1997 by Darrell Butler after a night of partying.

Butler, a Rutgers University sophomore, conceived of the sandwich as a way to save money by combining his various cravings on one bun.

"Separately, they would have cost me, like, $12.75, and I was on a college budget," Butler, 26, of Eatontown.

The Fat Darrell is named for its caloric content, not Butler, a 160-pound physical trainer and aspiring actor.

"So, I'm standing there eating it, and all of a sudden the guy standing behind me says, 'That thing that guy's eating looks pretty good, can you make me one of those?' And, it was like a movie scene, the next 10 people order the same thing. So, I'm like, 'Whoa!' like I think I might be onto something."

The man who assembled the sandwich was Abdul Eid, working in an R.U. Hungry food truck, parked in a campus lot in New Brunswick, catering to beer-soaked undergraduates with the late-night munchies.

Eid now runs R.U. Hungry Grill & Pizza, a store on Easton Avenue he was able to open in part due to the success of the $4.75 Fat Darrell.

Anyone know about the place in Pittsburgh where you can get a French Dip, except they dip the whole sandwich in the gravy and wrap 'er up in foil? I saw it on FoodTV one time and fell in love.
