For the second time in their career, the Black Crowes appear to be throwing in the towel. Except that they don't want to call it like that, per-se, so they're simply telling fans that they're going on an "indefinite hiatus." But first the band plans a long farewell. They'll kick off the super-extensive "Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys" tour in August before taking their final bows -- for now, anyway -- in December at the conclusion of a six-night stand in San Francisco. The advertising for the tour promises two-set, three-hour shows, billed as "Acoustic Hors D'oeuvres followed by an Electric Reception with the Black Crowes."

This year marks 20 years since the Black Crowes first broke onto the scene with their debut album, 'Shake Your Money Maker.' It reached multi-platinum sales during a time when albums could still do that and it was more than just a big money maker for the band -- it was a career maker. As a way of commemorating and celebrating that career, the band plans a double album featuring new, all acoustic versions of 20 songs from their catalog. 'Croweology' will be sold for the price of a single album and released on August 3.

"With a smile so wide you can count my teeth, and with a heart so full of love that it is spilling over the rim, I offer a humble and simple thank you," said band leader Chris Robinson in a statement to the press. "Thank you for your time, your imaginations, your heartaches and joy. Thank you for 20 years of cosmic rock 'n' roll. 20 years of keeping it weird. 20 years of chasing horizons ... this year the music is only for you as we celebrate what has been, what is now and whatever will be."

That certainly sounds like a goodbye, to us.
