went to a beach today near the pier and it was packed to the brim with dude bros and broken beer bottles. not good for a 3 and 5 yr old.

anyone know of a quieter spot with less human detritus?

damn, what's the name of that small beach at the southern tip of oak st. beach?
olive st. beach? or check out the beaches near hyde park. used to take my kids out that way and it was fairly quiet
been a while....sorry...in the end i'm not much help at all.

i'll assume that you have a car, so i'll suggest 31st street beach (3100 south) or foster beach (5200 north). both are a bit of a trek from downtown, but there're no dude bros and on a weekend like this there should be a lot of other kids for them to play with.

Drive straight north until you hit Lake Superior. The water's kinda cold, but the beaches are beautiful and empty... I'll even buy you some pasties and beer!

Just came to post about Montrose.
That is where the wife and I take the kids when we want to take the kids to the lake in the city. Very family friendly. And lots of helados push carts going around.

Def. Montrose is the way to go.

no beach today, but we did go to the illinois railway museum. the boy was in heaven. (for the unitiated, my son only need two things in life - tofutti cuties and the existence of steam engines)

they had a WWII reenactment deal going on for memorial day wknd...they gave you an italian passport at the gate and if you wanted to ride the trains, you got asked for papers by heavily "armed" axis troops. it was really pretty cool. and of course, there were bands of roaming US, polish and french troops in different "unoccupied" areas of the grounds
