Maybe my favorite Sun Ra. Love that record.

Is Sonny Sharrock on that one?

So far I like it, but I think I prefer his more adventurous stuff.

No, not this one. The sound on this is fairly similar to Karma and features some of the same players - Leon Thomas, Lonnie Liston Smith, and Richard Davis. Not sure which Pharoah Sanders albums feature Sharrock, but he's not on any of the ones I have (don't think there's guitar on any of them). Maybe he's on some of the later stuff? I'd be interested in hearing it. I've been pretty slowly working my way through Sanders' catalog.

All I really know if Sun Ra's catalog is the earlier stuff, from the 1950's. But yeah, that one and Supersonic Jazz are probably my faves. (Supersonic has an earlier version of "El Is a Sound of Joy". So great.) And I love John Gilmore – a totally underrated tenor player.

Devo: Something For Everyone

Brand new sameness...focus group tested and approved! Devo's latest entry basically just treads water. Maybe the world has finally caught on. Nothing new here but if you like Devo, and you should, you will enjoy at least giving this a listen.

What Sun Ra have you heard or do you like? His stuff runs pretty much the full spectrum of jazz.

This morning:

Tame Impala - InnerSpeaker
Double Dagger - Masks
Rangda - False Flag
