They are having Moby come to the studio and spin records this afternoon and Tori Amos will be playing live on the station next week?

hey, moby's fine as long as he doesn't play any of his own stuff.

Tori Amos stills sucks, though.

Seems like a different mission for in studio guests than a couple of years ago.

That's pretty....um, "unindie", if there is such a thing anymore...
even if the line's been blurred, Moby and Tori Amos are definitely on the other side of the fence...

moby dj'ing is ok. caught him doing that about 6 years ago. But both have watered down their stuff recently, and both are major labels.. oh well, just skip 'em :)

I'm really beginning to hate the stupid banter between the DJs as they change shifts. It sounds exactly like a commercial radio station at time, save the music of course.

...because commercial radio stations never play Tori Amos and Moby, of course...

no...KEXP is not an INDIE station.

They are a defined as a VARIETY station, not even a college variety station, plus they report to AAA charts so they have some of that too (Tori definitely fits that) meaning they can play whatever or have whomever they want on. Plus, you have to occasionally have someone a bit larger scale on to keep certain people still interested.

That's like 2 minutes out of an hour. On the way to work in the morning you'd be lucky to hear 6 songs in an hour. How many on KEXP? How much DJ banter on the commercial radio stations? 15-20 minutes of wacky comedy with loads of great zingers and goofs. How much on KEXP? 2 minutes of playful banter amongst the dj's. Commercials? I won't even go there.

Basically don't listen to KEXP because i'm sure you all can find better stuff elsewhere. Why waste your time with KEXP? Just move on. I hear the End rocks.

No true. I've been listening since it was KCMU (not really that long but 5+ years) and i've been giving my money for 4 years. I don't see a problem with Moby guest DJing. I remember when Moby wasn't in the mainstream Everything era and a commercial station wouldn't touch his stuff yet KEXP played him. Now they're supposed to turn their back on him because he's gained a mainstream audience?

I don't like Tori Amos but if they can play stuff like Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and the sort then why not have her perform in the studio?
