I should disclose that I only have an acoustic guitar and I really can't play. But I've always wanted to really learn and I decided that I need to make it happen sooner rather than later.

Do you have a price range?

I've always encouraged anyone who has ever thought about picking it up to do so immediately. Even if you don't have any natural inclination towards it you can still learn enough that it'll give you enjoyment the rest of your life. There is something infinitely satisfying about learning a song you like from start to finish.

I know I'll never be great at it but I still fucking love playing.

Do I have a price range? No. Does my wife have a price range? Yes. I'd like to stay under a $1,000. The closer to 500 the better. That said, I'd probably pay whatever necessary if it meant that I'd be happy with it for 10yrs. I only want to play for my own self enjoyment.

You'll need an amp too and that's almost as important as having a guitar that feels good. I'd recommend the Fender Blues Jr, and take a look at the epiphone les paul jr. You might be able to get both for $500-600 depending on store, new/used etc...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Epiphone-Sunburst-L ... 43a0901aa3

250 buy it now

harmony tube amp up to 67 bux

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-1960s-HARMO ... 2c55e56f41

this sano tube amp also has tremolo
up to 127.50

electar wood cab, reserve not met, but holy cool looking

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-EPIPHONE-EL ... 5194048bb1

then blues jrs seem to be going for alot more than they used to. You could probably do just fine talking them down at guitar center.

Which reminds me... epiphone valve jr. head and cab

like this. 1 bid, at $100

they're fun to mod out too, plenty of room in the head.

So there you have it, some cheap vintage and vintage-y inspired modern gear on the cheap.

Good luck and have fun, let me know how it goes.

Thanks! Way more effort than I expected but I really appreciate it.

It's no different now - people trying to outdo ! each other in extremes. There are people who like X, and there are people who say X are wimps; they like Black Flag.
