Our company just did a massive reorganization of all administrative services and decided to outsource a ton of stuff like phone network servicing. Anyway the guy who used to be a VP of that department has been completely demoted and bumped from his office down to a cube.

He used to meet with vendors and secure deals etc. and now he runs around building cube walls, moving desks etc. He had the option to leave but said he needed thwork and decided to stay on, I assume for less money.

He just came by my office and asked if I wanted him to switch out his nice former office furniture, for my older more beat up stuff because as he said "you treat me like a human being" ( I say hello to him & thank him if he helps me with something). This guy is about 20 years older than me, has 4 kids etc, and I'm some young dipshit & in some ways will feel like a complete asswipe every time he walks by my office and sees me working at his desk.

So, do I get over myself, thank him and have him switch it out, or do I say thanks anyway, but I'm happy with the stuff I have. This is just a fact of business, but he deserves a lot more dignity than he's getting right now & I'm kinda uncomfortable with the situation.

I'd probably make the switch, but you might wanna check it out with your superiors. This guy may be setting himself up for some sort of "Office Space" style siege.

check w/superiors. if they're ok w/the switch, it's really up to you... if you're going to feel uncomfortable then don't. poor guy-- that really sucks to be demoted, it's happened a lot at our company when we started outsourcing things.

i wouldn't do it. even if dude didn't care, i think that i would.

My boss doesn't care what I do, I wish the guy would, it would make me feel a bit less sad for him. FUCK is that going to be me at 50???????????????
