I've been listening to Chateau Revenge a lot this week. It really reminds me of early Phoenix in a lot of places. Also, there's songs on there that would be at home on that Ariel Pink record if they (AP) had been more interested in song craft than forced experimentalism.

That's exactly what I thought about that Silver Seas album and probably why I like it so much. United is my favourite Phoenix album.

If you guys recommend early Phoenix, I wouldn't mind checking it out. My only exposure is the track 1901 or whatever it's called, but it doesn't remind me much of The Silver Seas.

IMO, Phoenix's United=Ariel Pink's Before Today much >Silver Sea's Chateau = either of them

I think I am discovering now Ariel Pink as less inspired and much more borrowed than at first.

I can't make sense of this.

Or maybe I can. You mean that Phoenix album has more in common with the Ariel Pink album than the Silver Seas album has with either of them?

Speaking of, that Kasey Anderson track is already locked on the new monger mix.

Great looking list. I play Hammond in Little Fish (29), and we would also like to subscribe to your newsletter. ;) There are loads of bands I haven’t heard of too... Looks like I have some serious downloading to do.

Awesome that both Elvyn and Little Fish have shown up. Welcome sirs (and madam).

And btw ihatemornings - is that your Hammond in "You, Me, and the TV"? Cuz I love that part. For me it's the detail that really pushes that song over the top (coupled with a really strong chorus).
