Weezer- Blue Album

Despite how much they suck now this is for me the perfect power pop album.

I know Nada Surf quite good and I think I've heard something by the Posies. Perhaps they were to sloppy for me. Nada Surf has some nice albums. Matthew Sweet I don't know, but I will change that soon.

This one never gets any mention but is so damn catchy all the way through

pure power pop

Image

produced by Todd Rundgren, released in 1999

will also vouch here for

Jellyfish - Bellybutton
Matthew Sweet -Girlfriend
The Posies - Frosting On The Beater

and will throw out this one for good measure

Redd Kross - Third Eye

Image

the best 70's influenced pop album that wasn't released in the 70's

Lots of great records in here but if anything this thread proves there are pretty varying opinions on what power pop is.

Downloaded this a while ago, MCap and forgot to mention it. Totally LURVE the Belleville track. Is that an unreleased one from the vault?

Edit: also, nice to see the Tomorrows on that mix. And Roger Klug really stands out for me too.

Yessir, and thanks! It's the one and only finished track out of ten from the last sessions. That being said, I apologize for my forgetfulness by including here. Conflict of interest n all.

Yep. That Roger Klug record is a definite keeper.

Speaking of Gidget's Ga-Ga, just saw Mick from that band at the Chilton bash that I played a couple of weeks ago. Good guy.
Gonna try to do a collab with him at some point.

I've always liked that artwork, but I just realized about 30 seconds ago that the girlie is pulling out Parallax Project's I Hate Girls album. Is that a sly bit of photoshopping or is that just the image?

BTW - spent way too long last year looking for a dl of that album. Never did find it, although I ended up buying a track off itunes. The hard copy came with a bonus cd of cover versions that seems like the must-have part of the package.

of the stuff mentioned, I'd cosign

Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend or 100% Fun
Cheap Trick's Debut
Plimsouls - Everyone at Once
Nick Lowe - Jesus of Cool
Marshall Crenshaw's Debut

I'd add

Squeeze - Argybargy
Joe Jackson - Look Sharp
Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque
Hoodoo Gurus - Stoneage Romeos
The Undertones - S/T
& any of those four DIY american and uk powerpop comps (Come out and Play, Starry Eyes, Teenage Kicks, Shake It Up)

Can't really add many more...maybe Blue Ash or Badfinger. So I'll just drop in a one hit wonder:

Maybe not Top 5 but certainly worth a mention:

Shoes - Present Tense

I've pulled this one out every now and then when I need a power pop fix. Tip of the cap to mcaputo for the intro to this one.

Ah, nice. I gave up trying to find that one too. To answer your question, it's a photoshopped pic of a young Joan Collins from the 50's.

Nice Rick. Good to hear it's been getting some spins. This record is certainly deserving of more recognition.

Yeah it's probably more pop and less power but really no more than say The Raspberries, Big Star, Badfinger, or any others from that era that have been mentioned thus far.

Solid record.
