I saw a proposal in NYT to limit gun purchases to one gun per month and ban magazines that hold large amounts of ammo. Those are pretty good ideas. Both still allow people to hunt and defend themselves, while limiting the ability of a crazy to arm himself in couple days for a shooting spree.

To some people, yeah. To others, they are a repudiation of what the values this country stands for not to mention a violation of the Constitution and the first steps toward Sharia Law.

Clearly the answer is MORE guns:

Quote:
Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert says his office is drafting a measure to allow members of Congress to carry guns in the District of Columbia, including in the Capitol and on the House floor.

Gohmert says he and his colleagues need to be able to protect themselves, in light of the mass shooting in Arizona.

“It’d be a good thing for members of Congress who want to carry a weapon in the District,” he said. “I know friends that walk home from the Capitol. There’s no security for us,” he said, adding that the measure would deter people from attacking members. “There is some protection in having protection.”

Right. But you realize how many controversial things Repubs have passed in the wake of a tragedy like the Patriot Act. Seize the moment.

Didn't he get out of the military, and then go and work for border patrol?

my granddad and i are watching Fox news pretty much non-stop since i'm in his house. he keeps ranting about how Fox News is str8 killin' it in the ratings department, but when every ad is one for "gold as an investment" or "we buy gold", I get a little suspicious. maybe they have viewers, but i'd wager that those viewers have no money.

I was just reading a story about Loughner's postings on a couple of message boards, what people were divining about his character/behavior based on it, etc.
Got me thinking about the "selves" we've created here and what someone could piece together on any one of us from a postmortem/"He always seemed like such a nice boy" perspective.
Technology's weird, yo.

Those of you who are ignoring or "taking the high road" and not watching Cable News: that's fine and dandy, but it's not like it doesn't exist. When we have to deal with the effect of numbskulls who DO watch it (Tea Party/Southern Conservatives), its existence is all too real.

I'm guessing you followed the 2010 "Guns in Bars" story of the GOP's in the TN legislature pushing through a law allowing handgun permit holders to carry in places that serve alcohol. WHEN will COMMON SENSE prevail??
