This is what I'm listening to right now:

This is the AllMusic review:
Quote:
This eight-piece Colombian collective combines classic-rock guitar crunch and Afro-pop rhythms with hip-hop flavor and traditional Latin beats to widely varying (and very mixed) results on their self-titled debut album. Their cultural nods are both heritage-affirming and convention-breaking; when leader Ivan Benavides raps ecstatic over pulsating percussion and wailing guitar, there's a wink in his eye and lift in his voice that lets you in on his sardonic stance. But while Bloque often play it for fun, they are playing it for real. These are adept instrumentalists with bountiful skill in each genre they decide to visit. Still, it's all a bit coy and self-conscious by album's end (as well as somewhat derivative; every Latin beat inevitably is accompanied by a hip-hop or hard rock flourish), but the cultural pillaging that Bloque occasionally manage sounds like the rising of a new generation.

It's pretty great.
Billy G, you listening?

Oh, and I'm not so sure I agree with the "coy and self-conscious" bit. It's just cool and a lot of fun.

I like it. I saw them live about 5 years ago too, and they were great.

If you're looking for some more columbian music, I'd also recommend this

np: a bunch of mp3's on random, currently Gene Clark "Only Colombe"

There's a new guy at work; very nice guy and he happens to be from Columbia.
I loaned him the disc.
He just came back to me and was amazed. Loved it.

Of course, he appreciated it on a whole different level than I can, because, (he told me) that the lyrics are very relevant to current Columbian culture. Oh, and he speaks Spanish, while I don't.
