It's the Jim Ford connection that got me looking into these guys (of course).
I figure that, if Jim Ford is collaborating with the leader(s) of the band, it's gonna be something worth hearing.
Any fans? Suggestions on where to start? Is a compilation good enough, or should I go ahead and buy complete albums?

They recorded the original version of "Niki Hokey" and, along with Jim Ford, Lolly Vegas co-wrote one of my favorite songs ever (which it looks like the band did NOT record) -- "Ju Ju Man".

So: looking at the disco...

They had a big hit several decades ago, Come And Get Your Love, but that's all I know about them.

"Niki Hokey", "Come and Get Your Love", and "Witch Queen from New Orleans" are pretty much all anyone knows of them. They were the first all-first nations rock band, which is pretty cool but doesn't make their shit any more listenable.

See also: Indigenous, who play a bland blues-rock.

I like the PJ Proby version of Niki Hokey. In my band in the late 60's, the girl band leader wanted to do this song. In the early
70's our band did Witch Queen and the Latinos in our band liked them because they were funky and considered them "brothers". The band I'm in now just learned Come And Get Your Love, which is my fav by them.
