I'm not sure what you expected?

It's psychedelic jazz-influenced prog rock from the late '60s. I feel like just reading that description should allow you to conjure up the sound of Soft Machine in your head before you've ever even heard a note from them. You read reviews first and were honestly surprised that this is what it sounds like? What made you think you should check it out in the first place? Do you like anything else that's even remotely like it?

Maybe he was like me and went backwards from Robert Wyatt into the Soft Machine catalog. I get what you are saying and I felt like I should have known better afterward but I do like Robert Wyatt Solo but not Soft Machine.

I can see that, but those first two Soft Machine albums are more like Wyatt's early solo stuff than the later, jazzier Soft Machine records. They sound more like a product of the whimsical, bohemian late '60s, but they're pretty clear precursors to stuff like Rock Bottom and Ruth Is Stranger than Richard.

Of course they're not for everybody, and I can see not liking them. Stone was all up in arms with the "how can anyone like this" comment, and I thought that was sort of ridiculous and out of nowhere.

Chriss Isaac: Beyond the Sun

This is one album I figure we're all safe to pre-judge. You pretty much get exactly what you expect. You get Chris Isaac, a guy who's been heavily retro influenced since day one playing faithful renditions of Sun records classics, recorded almost note-for-note with vintage gear. If that sounds like a good idea to you, you'll love this album. If it sounds pointless to you, listening to the results is unlikely to convince you otherwise. I'm a fan of Chris Isaac and of Sun, so I was interested in this project. He's simply got the chops to pull this thing off in great style, always has some crack players with him and he really does an impeccable job with this material which he obviously loves. I'd have preferred maybe a few more obscurities rather than such a leveraging of hits and reliance on Elvis tunes, but overall Isaac is just such a natural for this project that it all works seamlessly. Quality stuff here.

He's from my hometown. Here's a fun article from the local paper, if you care to read it.

Awesome. Would make my top 10 for the last decade. I went to the release party at some hole of a club in downtown LA. I was gutted when the good half of the band for me quit. I forget which band they formed after that (e:Shoplifting, something like that).

An employee at Raputin's was playing some Nuclear Rabbit over the house system- I had to ask what the hell it was. Sounded like a mix of Primus & Zappa and some god-awful death metal shit. Kinda dated, but a fun listen, for me.

Quote:
Nuclear Rabbit is a California band, started in Novato. The band’s music has been called metal, but incorporates a variety of other styles, making classification difficult. Known for its unusual sound and lyrics, and bassist Jean Baudin’s 11-string bass, Nuclear Rabbit has a large fan base despite being a perpetually underground and independent band. They are perhaps the most well known underground band in California, having bands like Papa Roach, Alien Ant Farm, and Deftones opening up for them.

Looking for links. Edit: Some here: http://nuclearrabbit.co.uk/freemp3andvideos.php
