It's weird to me how none of the metal fans I know are into that album.

Anyway, while I'm not really into metal in the first place, I think that the kind of stuff I do like is pretty different from what Dalen likes.

yeah, i'm not into many American bands to be honest, and definitely not into screamo and hardcore/metal hybrid type stuff. i dig the really pure, raw bands that are heavy on atmosphere and riffs, and not overly technical (aside from say, Decapitated).

I'm not a huge metal fan, but I like that Racebannon album quite a bit. It's no Satan's Kickin Yr Dick In, but still pretty damn good. And then again, I've never really thought of Racebannon as metal, but their latest definitely walks the line of hardcore and metal.

They've definitely gotten more metal with their last two records. Still kind of straddling the line, though, I agree, and that's a big part of what I like about them. Hard to classify.

I like how we're hijacking Dalen's thread to talk about Racebannon. :)

And FWIW I think Tombs is probably the best metal album I've heard from 2011. Probably because it reminds me of Neurosis.

Yeah, downloading a lot of these. I'm not sure how I'd rank things at this point, but of the stuff on your list I already know, I like Miasmal, In Solitude, and Acephalix. Death metal's always a little tricky for me. It either hits me or it doesn't.

I'll try to post my list at some point.
